Tbh all 29423 shield ideas I've read were about changing this broken mess to what was also a broken mess, only broken in different ways.

Game is made to be all about morph feints and timing and shields don't work in this setting because making them a timed parry would be pretty stupid.

Welp.

The Padded Lads (aka Patchie, "Patchies") are a secret order of mercenaries that emphasize strength in numbers.

I really liked the books and the tv show was very good up to a point.
I still like it but this season feels quite dumb and simplified. It's like the characters lost their depth and some dialogues are just silly.

I agree with DerFurst about the dumb parts.
I also find it weird that they didn't take into account the time it takes to travel from Dragonstone to the North.
Jon traveled from Dragonstone to the North by ship, which seems like a very long trip, but it's like nothing happened in between, as if he was teleported.
Also, when they where surrounded by the whitewalkers Gendry went to inform the others, to send a raven to Dragonstone, so Daenerys can fly to their rescue. All this felt like 10-20 mins time. After-all it would be impossible for them to survive for a long period of time there, considering the temperatures.

Is logic, is real, is fun, is rare ! otherwise if you don't add this to the game,

  • the game became frustrating to play when encountering this situations of fight !

I think it's clear that Jax is saying those things for PR.

I remember when Rapier was introduced, a dev (I think it was Vesanus?) said here in the forums that the reason it was so short is that they couldn't balance it if it was realistically long.

It was simply a balance issue, I don't like that the devs are unable to balance a rapier in the game, but I don't like being bullshitted by a dev representative either. Please stop that, Jax, I don't wanna be rude but that whole ordeal was extremely condescending.

Back to the balance thingy, rapier was another extreme disappointment I got from the game's development regarding balance, combined with weapons playing out mostly the same*, range being almost a negligible factor, long polearms being useless and extremely limited in duels, spear being just a feint-spam stick, longsword being so ridiculously powerful all-around, and the fact that all the best weapons are either the ones that stam you out easily or have the strongest accels/feints.

Even in Chivalry i felt like every weapon played out differently. Longsword was obviously the most versatile and you could do everything with it, but then SoW heavily encouraged stab-feints and was actually really good at side-drags. Messer was great for gambling and spinning. Poleaxe had decent feints, a very sneaky stab anim, and huge damage, but was useless for drags and had mediocre reverses. Dubaxe had shit feints but the reverses were extremely useful, and it was very good at 1vX. Bearded axe was only useful for feinting, and even then the feints sucked, but it was usable and humiliating. In Mordhau I feel like most weapons play out mostly the same, and alt-modes, though they do add variety, don't change how each weapon itself feels.

*I'm not counting no-combo weapons because that mechanic simply isn't interesting. It's nice to have the small variety it brings, but it just seems like an artificial/lazy way to make certain weapons unique/interesting.

Billhook having negative knockback is nice though.

Now, I feel kind of bad for what I'm going to say next and I wasn't sure if I wanted to say it.
Giru, in the stream description you said that you went 150-0 and that you kept a "clean shit". This is almost true and I say "almost" because each time you died you were leaving the server and immediately rejoined to erase your deaths from the scoreboard. I found it gay then, but when I saw the selfie you uploaded I understood why you did it. The kill streak had to be perfect for the stream. I want to give the wrong impression here. This happened a few times, as far as I remember.
that is a huge flaw imho. Take what I said the wrong way. Keep being shit. I'm looking forward to shitting on you.

Yo just here to say that shield has been op for an entire year and removing it in it's current state will literally improve the game's combat :) :)

but you did punish him, he took a huge stam loss

Now the frequent inability to punish disarm is a big problem imo but I believe this is being addressed next build

your language is presumptuous and disjointed

i told you to go make a thread about what you think because you have a different concern than the topic of this thread so youre out of place. you take issue more with the nature of the game than this detail

retarded probably isnt the goal

gameplay could improve, it always can.

i dont know how i've convinced you im omniscient, but if i were then it would make no sense to put it to the test because i would be all knowing, so i wouldnt need to put it to the test because i would know. I dont know why you said that, which i guess means im not omniscient, because otherwise i would know.

I also dont get where you got someone saying this was the only way, you should quote that, i think i missed it.

I explain how the game works, thats pretty much it

devs have changed harder shit than some forced lockout during combo feint, so if im to assume anything, its the outcome of this particular change is not worth its effort. Assuming some friendship seems a bit paranoid. In general you seem pessimistic and cynical and im sorry you feel the way you do, I hope you feel better soon. Go ahead and make a thread, might be useful to engage in discourse about a larger facet of the game, who knows, not me because im not omniscient.

Shields negate the one aspect around which the whole combat revolves. Until there's more offensive options, shields will be boring no matter what.

As 'Kirby' in this video, I'd like to point out a few things:

  • This playstyle is extremely frustrating to play against, I understand this and sympathise.

  • It IS possible to beat. If you have a developed understanding of stamina management and good footwork this can be beaten.

  • What It involves is faking an engagement to get your opponent to miss, then taking full advantage of the Second Wind perk to stamina drain them.

  • If they have missed, you will start with more stamina, thus given you are able to block hits, you will inevitably disarm them.

  • The whole style pivots around making an opponent miss attacks. If you play safely, avoiding using lunges (which can easily be dodged), it removes a lot of its power. A lot of people try to lunge, miss, then open themselves up to a stamina war. Any player who understands this mechanic will abuse an opponents lack of understanding.

  • If you rely on risky attacks, your style focuses on superior 'reading' of the game or faster reactions than your opponent, it will counter you. It is designed to punish poor footwork which is not something the general Mordhau player uses as the main part of their kit. Don't get me wrong, they use it, but they rely on other skills far more which the shield negates.

I'd like to thank Sanithur for taking part in this duel with me, he was a fine opponent and graceful in defeat. A true gentleman. I'd also like to thank Jason for capturing my questionably cancerous playstyle on video for the masses.

Also, trying to kick this loadout to avoid the facehug is possibly the worst thing you can do. Kicking is so easy to read and it can be easily dodged, as shown in the video. It wastes stamina, which simply empowers this loadout more.

Peace.
