It's here! The purpose of this Alpha is to ensure the stability of the game and its server infrastructure, as well as testing the functionality and synergies between all the game mechanics. Balancing is not a big concern to us at the moment and will be addressed once we have finalized our proficiency and perk system, which will follow in a future update, along with other features that we're currently holding back while they're being worked on. Please keep in mind that this is an early alpha version of the game, bugs and broken things are to be expected.

To compensate for the lack of an ingame tutorial in this early stage, it's highly recommended that you read carefully through the controls menu and try things out in a local match before jumping into multiplayer -- there are some extremely skilled players with thousands of hours in melee games who are eager to fight and won't hold back.

Also, check out this great tutorial made by community member Jax:

It's almost here folks, and yes, that's 2017, we're not delaying it by another year. We will unlock Steam keys tomorrow by the specified time, which will then appear in your forum account, and you'll then be able to activate them on Steam. If you haven't activated your purchase on our forums yet, go ahead and do that (we've sent out emails with the activation link some time ago!)

We can't wait to have you guys get your hands on what we've been working on (and what you've been waiting) for so long. See you guys tomorrow!

PS: regarding the recent outbursts on the forums.

The situation on the forums has been, well, rather tense the past few days. We made some decisions that clearly riled parts of the community up. If we were to do it again, we'd have handled it differently for sure. We've been working day and night to make sure everything in the alpha is working correctly, and that it has as much content as we can reasonably put into it at this point.

If you've been following us for a while, you know we tend to obsess over details and nothing is ever good enough. This remains true even for an alpha, and will remain true in the future. It's simply how we operate as a team. Unfortunately, everything has its downsides, and it sometimes costs us foresight when it comes to other aspects, like keeping you informed of our on-the-spot decisions, or being able to stay true to deadlines. That said, we think you'll love it. And ultimately, that's really why I think we're all here. Thanks for your patience and support, we'd never have made it without you.

Disclaimer: This isn't the Mordhau pre-alpha that Giru and devs are playing, just a 3 year old version of Slasher (On another engine).

WELL, Let me just jump right into this here. So this may be under detailed and have many more possibilities than I'm initially explaining, so take creative licence and think of how this can be improved.
NOW let's jump into it, so, I know there is supposed to be an internal MMR that is going to be added at some point, an official one that is. Which will as I believe was explained to be something along the Lines of say 3v3 LTS's and things of the sort.
Now I propose a new type of game mode, which may be complex to explain clearly so I may be making references to other games/genres to help picture it.
So say it is a 6v6 with a TO type game mode, let's say it resembles a moba, but without the towers and such, let's say the objective is whatever you want to be in the enemies base, like capture the flag or King of the hill or something of the sort. BUT the teams both have Cavalry units, each team is allotted one per side. now these cav we will call them for ease of reference. will be somewhat key to winning a game without brute force. Now I will make a reference which is not intended to be representative of the map but it will make it easier to understand.
so basically it's a map like a moba, (WHEN I SAY THIS I AM TO MEAN THE FINISHED PRODUCT'S ONLY RESEMBLANCE TO A MOBA IS THE MAP LAYOUT, NOT TERRAIN, NOT OBJECTIVE, IT IS SIMPLY MEANT FOR HAVING A HIGHER TACTICAL ABILITY) but let's say the jungle and the lanes are reversed. as in the foot units would travel in the jungle and the cav units would be in the lanes. but the Jungle would be a "lane" and the lanes would be the "jungle" so basically these lanes can be used as flanking/ access points to key areas on the map. but the cav could not follow the foot units for some reason (Let's just say terrain) but controlling a certain lane/entry point to a certain strategic point would be paramount as it would be a flanking position. so this is where the cav comes in. The cav would be to patrol the "lanes" and to squash/warn of flanks while also fighting for control from the other cav unit, but as stated earlier there are certain points would be "portals" or flanking routes from the cav's "lanes" the untis could help the cav or leave them to fight, and having a larger map would increase the need for a better cav unit. This is the idea in short, it can be improved this is just my initial thoughts. So it's more or less moba like, but the roles are reversed and if the cav were the junglers. feel free to critique or criticize and improve on the idea :)

TLDR Version:
The reference I made to a moba and it was to basically explain that horses are restricted to certain areas as to make the 1 per team not op and their role is to be more or less a scout, almost like a man at arms and an archer combined (in certain ways) and the terrain is to keep it from being an open field engagement.
The main point is that the map is supposed to be represented as a moba. when I say this I simply mean that there are locations through cover than you can flank along a long choke point or hall like area, perhaps even multiple which would diversify game play. The team leader would have to be tactically minded and help the cavalry or leave him to his own devices (The man at arms aforementioned like trait) but they should be able to be fine on their own.
The objective, when I said TO like is meant for areas of control like, say a broken castle wall that you are safe to regen and regroup at. and the end objective is open ended.

You better get a real, experienced community manager because you devs seem to have no clue how to communicate during this release process, torn banana would be proud of this move. I'm not saying that giving access to some folks for testing purpose is a bad idea, it is legit, but this is how it looks like actually : "hey guys, we know you cannot wait anymore for the game, so what we did is give access to the last persons alive on the ruins of cancerous chiv community, they can play now and you can't, wait one more week, they are currently testing it, kys" what the hell are you thinking seriously. Stop transferring the idea of a priviledged, elitist class from chivalry to mordhau, this is exactly what you don't want for your game, and stop giving privileges to your old chiv friends, you have a fresh community to take care of and this was the worst possible move you could do these days in terms of communication. Instead of cutting all ties with chivalry and its community, you're importing it to mordhau and basically declare they are your friends, with a big fuck you you won't get any info to all others, that's a stupid move.

You guys want transparency, so here it is:

This is what we've been doing. Testing different server providers, testing different tickrates. Testing how the servers behave with 16 real players and how they behave with 64 bots. We also found a major bug which is now fixed. Should this have been done long ago? Sure, but it's not that easy. It takes a good amount of work to make a new server build for the first time since Engine updates and such, and we have been working hard on fixing things. The plan was to fix the major problems, then test it on a server. It took a little longer than expected and here we are.

Keep in mind that smooth online play on dedicated servers was a major worry for some of us for a long time, because the netcode is very complex and there are not many examples out there with similar stuff. Now you might say that this is what the alpha testers are supposed to test. You are correct, and you will be testing it on a much bigger scale. However, we first had to ensure it was atleast playable. We know you guys want a proper alpha, and you will get it, there will be plenty of bugs and issues to find and not everything will be polished - but the alpha not being playable would make a very bad impression, hence the early private testing.

Regarding the test itself, lets just say it went smooth and its looking very promising. Much better than some of us expected, so we're excited to finally give it into your hands.

As for the testers, we needed trustworthy testers quickly, so old friends (some even pre-slasher days) came to mind first. We know some of you guys might not like this, but anything else would have taken too long at this point. As for your problems with GIRU, thats between you and him, not us. I would be surprised if you could name me one competitive minded player that didn't get toxic/whiny about another player at some point. Regarding the competitive community, I'm not sure what you are expecting. It is a competitive melee slasher, a lot of the old competitive Chivalry players will come back, it's just how it is. It is a fresh start however, and will hopefully work out better this time.

I don't think you guys would really want a community manager. It would mostly be a buffer. We guys like talking to you directly. You guys want more transparency, we will acknowledge your complaints and try to improve in the future.

And yes, that is a painted sallet in the background of the screenshot.

Hey, I'm not cancerous, am I?

I do agree that they could have mentioned it, but you guys will be able to play soon enough. There's more than just 3 people that got access, some US, some EU.

Yes, I understand some of you may not like Giru BUT he's very skilled at melee games, pretty articulate (when he wants to be tbh) and can provide some good, meaningful, relevant feedback.

Yes, there are people who payed a ton of money and paid more than Giru, but Triternion knows that Giru understands melee games. Would you rather have it go by who paid the most, thus potentially irrelevant feedback, unskilled players, or potentially untrustworthy people? I'm not saying that the GE or the Kings, Empress, Dukes, etc. are undesirable, but I'd like to think Triternion handpicked a combination of people that have a combination of:

a. won't leak shit
b. understand melee games well
c. have helped the community in one way or another

The last step towards releasing the alpha is bringing some trusty folks to play on a PRE-ALPHA build as the new servers start comming out and Triternion focuses on polishing the remaining edges. It is important to choose the right servers so we are testing the limits on the different setups with the help of this people. Currently the results have been very positive and we think it's gonna be a smooth process.

Not sure about how it's going to be in the alpha, I know that in the alpha there won't be any cosmetic progression and I'd imagine that would be the case for the weapons as well, so you just get everything at launch.

On full release, the devs have said they want to gently guide players to different playstyles - there's no benefit to using an ultra-specialized weapon like a spear when you don't know the basics of the combat, so you'll probably start with some more basic (but equally good) weapons and then quickly unlock new ones once you've figured those out.
