I would say it is obvious that no-one here is arguing in favor of bugs. Just against the way some of them are fixed.

I tried the new patch out last night and I didn't find there to be any "Oh no they patched out my favorite gimmick" drop in my performance. Just a less enjoyable game.

Before this patch I could identify a player who was weak on certain aspects of his defense and do things like curve side stabs around and in on him because he would leave me an opening. It was obviously readable because it could and would be reliably defended against by specific players with stronger side defense.

After dueling in this new patch last night it now feels pointless to even attempt it. I may as well just throw every attack dead center and make zero attempts at any kind of subtlety because the new and improved Biggie Sized™ force field will compensate for my opponents poor defense.

With these new turncaps/parrybox changes it feels like being forced to try to play pool without using english. Straight line center of cue ball at medium speed. Every shot.

The same game but 50% less enjoyable.

Would love for some of these theorycrafting joes to go 5 minutes in a duelyard with Frank insidering them, might change their tune about the parry being too big

Also what in tarnation is "insidering".

When the parry box is too small, people can manage to start their attacks behind it, visibly already inside the opponent. The result is an unparryable attack and plenty of "ground sniffing".

Thanks for the explanation. Well, that settles it, it ain't a problem with parry boxes being too small, it's a bug. A separate issue. Parry boxes could be made small, and this issue could be fixed separately.

It turns out, as you increase in rank, so too does the quality of your opponent. Who would have thought?

Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Mordhau the indie? I thought not. It's not a story the Chivalry vets would tell you. It's an alt right legend. Mordhau was created by a bunch of tryhards, so powerful and so into minmaxing they could use the Turncap to influence the hit detection to destroy noobs... They had such a knowledge of the mechanics that they could even hit through parries. The dark side of gaming is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unfair. They became so powerful... the only thing they were afraid of was losing was their reputation, which eventually, of course, they did. Unfortunately, they taught their PR everything they knew, which was nothing. It's ironic he could save teammates from a horse, but not themselves from brony game reviewers.

I think you are talking about the "we want fights to look like fights" statement.
Sadly, i think this is just an inherent flaw from the core of the combat mechanics. The entire combat system revolves around timing and for that alone, the most optimal way of playing will always be to make your own attack animations as unnatural and unintuitive as posible, and if you make the the animations too limiting, defense becomes too easy because offense has little dept.
What i'm trying to say is that these issues probably will never be completely gone. Maybe when the mods tool arrive people will be able to fiddle with the combat system and will find happy medium but in the meantime this is all we got and probably all we will ever have for this combat system based on timing.

A profanity filter is necessary for streamers and other people who would get demonetised because of the contents of the chat.

Using slurs of any kind has been against the rules since day one, and why a games company would have such a rule should be obvious to even the daftest people.

I am going to do you a favour and close this thread before you incur a ban for breaking rule 3 or 5.

Curious if any of the devs or playerbase know what the rough rank distribution is for duelling ranks.

Like, are most players %wise platinum or whichever rank?

Please fix tourney. You can't chase the people who do this because of the speed 0/0/0 armor, and you can't obviously climb the walls that they're on. By the time you get behind the platform (indicated by the blue line) he just climbs the other wall (indicated by the red line).

IGN: ComboDombo
Hello, I am inquiring a simple fix that in my opinion needs to be implemented ASAP. What is the point of playing ranked? If none can see your rank status in casual. It's literally just another duel server. To make it an actual achievement. Your 1v1 duel rank AND 3v3 duel rank should be scaled to your banner so everyone can see your rank if you kill them. Also, in ranked duels you should be able to see a players casual level aswell. It defeats the whole purpose of progression if you're limiting the observable achievements to specific game modes. I hope this gets changed immediately because if it doesnt this patch was for nothing. Sorrynotsorry broskis

Welcome back!

This latest update includes a host of improvements and features to MORDHAU - starting with duels, we’ve now implemented our first iteration of ranked play, a variety of gameplay improvements, map balancing to Crossroads, quality-of-life improvements, new cosmetics and more!

This update is the first of multiple coming to MORDHAU within the coming weeks; we’ve decided to break up our incoming additions into smaller updates to ensure that we can release new content without excessive delays. Expect iterative patches coming in the very near future that will build upon what’s currently available, and stay tuned for even more content and features soon, such as new maps, modding support, more gameplay adjustments and improvements for weapons, shields and archers, the new Invasion game mode, ranked 3v3 mode and more!

If you’d like to read all the changes for this update, check out our changelog:

As said above, we've decided to break up the content and features we’ve been working on for the past few months into smaller, progressive updates that will gradually build upon the base game. This will allow us to release specific things when they are ready, instead of holding up progress until all of these features are complete. We expect to have a much quicker turnaround between our latest update and the next; while we don’t have a specific timeline, a reasonable estimate would be a matter of weeks between these updates.

You can look forward to (in no particular order):

Feitoria and Castello are nearing completion, and should be ready very soon! To provide a bit of insight, these two maps are in different stages of completion, with Feitoria being closer to a release. Expect these maps to come along with other updates, but it’s likely that they will come in different patches.

The Invasion game mode is an asymmetrical attack-defend mode with a heavier emphasis on teamwork, objective interaction and a more focused experience than what you’d find in Frontline. Progress has been great on this mode, and at the moment we’re currently play-testing it on Camp, so we can further refine the mode before adding it to other maps. We plan on polishing this up in the coming weeks, and implementing the mode on all maps that currently have Frontline enabled.

With our latest update, we’ve launched 1v1 duels in a “beta” state to further refine our matchmaking, Elo system and to gauge interest in the game mode. Once we’re satisfied with the state of duels, we’ll be expanding this mode to include ranked 3v3’s as well. It’s important that we ensure duels play well first, and make sure that the gameplay and “meta” is in a good state before opening up the team variant.

Mod Support

While making a Software Development Kit (SDK/mod tools) is a big priority for us, it’s also a major undertaking that will require quite a lot of development resources, and ultimately quite a bit of time as well. To help support our wonderful modding scene, we’re currently in the process of implementing mod auto-download features - server owners can simply select what mods they want, and players only need to join the server to download these mods!

These are just the main areas we’re currently addressing, but more progress will be coming in the future as well. Thank you for your patience, and we’ll see you on the battlefield!

Is it time for the "what ever happened to... ?" youtube retrospectives on Mordhau yet?

At least game has fights that look like real fights.

But then again it may soon has fights that look like nothing because no one plays it

i barely play the game anymore,i have trouble understanding why chivalry and all of his flaws kept me interested this long while mordhau doesnt

1369 2068

Mordhau just isn't fun the way Chivalry was. Holding hopes for invasion but really, TO is what I want. Hopefully Invasion really is just TO but improved.

Aside from the disappointment FL has been there's also massive flaws in the combat itself.

In chivalry I had a whole playstyle revolving around only side hits/waterfalls and I didn't have to feint/delay drag or reverse; felt fun and took pride in not having to rape animations. But in Mordhau there's not really reliable side hits or satisfying waterfalls; only timing deceptions. You get hits either because someone didn't press their parry force field in time or because they pressed it too soon. This is not fun to me. Even shields have an absurdly massive parry size and they're not even fun for the shield users.

EVERYONE has the same playstyle in Mordhau. Better players know more tricks and read better but everyone is using mostly the same tactics... Only differences between players are which weapon's animations you choose to rape/cheese and whether you matrix/dodge alot and, prolly the most definitive difference between melee players of equal skill: whether you face hug or play range.

It's also not like Mordhau really cleaned up the cheese from Chivalry. SoW and Norse sword are still in Mordhau by different names. Messer is pretty obnoxious. Reverses were removed but attacks were sped up and sometimes I physically cannot press the parry or chamber button in time due to reaction and ping. Never had such issues in Chivalry at the same ping.

Don't even get me started on firebombs, rapier/shields in FL or cleaver bloodlust knights.

Also, I never NEVER felt like I was at a disadvantage for using a controller in Chivalry. I point out huge flaws in gamepads in Mordhau on countless threads only get made fun of on the forums for not being a keyboard nerd and to hear only silence from the devs on controller improvement.

It takes three. Whole. Seconds. To turn 360 degrees with max sensitivity on my controller in Mordhau. And I have been asking for AT THE VERY LEAST a sensitivity boost for controllers since 2017. Twenty. Seventeen.

I'm very disappointed in Mordhau and wish I hadn't spent so much money on an alpha key. Or wasting so many hours of my life playing the alpha.

You need to turn it into an FFA naturally, try making everyone in the server pissed off. Move between other people's duels while you're dueling so that people "accidentally" kill each other, throw swords at people when nobody's looking, maybe chuck a smoke bomb or two?

If that doesn't float your boat then just join frontline with team colours turned off and pretend it's an FFA.

The biggest slap in the face regarding this sensationalised slander is that the writer got paid to write it. They are not only sabotaging the success of a young and ambitious indie company, but they also make a living out of it. And surprising to no one - they have no idea what they are talking about, else they would know females and darker skin tones are already planned, and were only absent from launch because the developers had to rush the game to a release-worthy state.

Lux, you are old enough on this community to know that this place fucking breeds nazis and fascists of all kinds. The article is not slandering the devs in any way tbh, its just stating this fact. You were here already back in the political thread days, weren't you?

Since fucking forever right wing radicals have tryied to make this community theirs, this is what the article is about and tbh it's very precise, these people are in fact since forever trying to make this community a safe space for right wing radicals, its a disputed territory. And the question that it brings is also expected, are the devs aware of this? How do they position themselves knowing this fact? Are they right wing radicals too or they simply don't know how to handle the situation?

I'm here since fucking forever and I don't know the devs political stance, liking it or not, this is what is at play here, their political stance. I believe they are not right wing radicals because they said they will be adding women and other races to the game, or if they are, they are not allowing their political beliefs mix with their work. Just answer it, its really that simple tbh. Are you guys right wing radicals? How do you feel about the FACT that this community breeds fucking right wing radicals?

If you devs think that taking a stance on this will have a severe impact on the sales numbers or some shit, I have to disagree. If the game is good, no one will give a flying fuck if you guys say all this right wing bullshit in your community is, well, bullshit.

I think honesty is the best way foward tbh, just fucking say it, take a stance on the subject. How do you feel about the politics of your community? Which side are you on?

This right wing problem is present in tons of gaming communities, even here in fucking Brazil tbh. What I think its happening now is that political parties realized gamers are a fucking huge part of their actual and future political cattle, so we have "agents" stirring shit up. Its starting to have a economic effect towards the devs side, and no dev has yet spoken about this fuckery. Maybe its time you know, to adress this fucking elephant in the room, all this obnoxious right wing fuckery in gaming communities.

TLDR: This place effectively has been disputed by right wingers through its history, and I think the devs should make a public post about their views on this subject.

PS: I know the "agents stirring shit up" part sounds kinda conspiracionist, but I have some real fucking good reasons to believe that this shit is actually goddamn real, at least in a few big brazillian gaming communities. I feel like in one of them I poked a wasp's nest, but this is something for another time. Its fucking creepy I shit you not.

In light of recent publicity on the state of MORDHAU’s community, we would like to discuss our stance on toxicity and the topic of gender and race in our game.

First and foremost, Triternion does not, nor have we ever, had plans to add a customization option that would force a white male default. This is an absurd idea that stems from a misunderstanding in a recent interview by PC Gamer with two of our artists. These artists, both uninvolved with character development went into a verbal interview with minimal PR experience and ended up answering some of the questions in a misleading way, which combined with a lack of context, led to some very controversial statements. Again, we at Triternion do not, nor have we ever had any plans to implement any kind of ethnicity toggle on potential future character ethnicity customization additions.

The responses given were referring to the gender part of the questions, which were based off an old controversial "gender toggle" idea, with the intention being to give the player options to play the game with only female characters, only male characters, or both. This concept was brought forth by one of our developers and posted prior to the game’s release as a response to a large number of heated debates regarding the topic of realism. The idea to give players this ability was simply a theoretical solution to a difficult problem and was never intended to be the official stance of Triternion on this topic. This is a lesson for us that we must be excessively prudent with the wording we use in the future as it can be easy to misconstrue an individual’s opinions and ideas as officially sanctioned.

Shortly after launch and in internal discussions, the concept of a gender option toggle was dismissed as it would undermine the customization players work hard to create. The two artists featured in the interview were ill-informed of this decision, which was a major mistake and miscommunication on the side of Triternion; and in combination with a question on a sensitive issue of which they were underprepared to answer, strongly contributed to this misunderstanding. Our official stance is that these toggle options are out of the question.

In regards to community toxicity, we do not have prior experience managing communities of this size, nor the manpower or resources that established studious can leverage. Our team consists of 11 first-time developers working remotely and volunteer moderators who try their best to curb this toxicity and behavior across all platforms, including in-game. At the moment we are stretched thin with major important content additions and unfortunately we do not have the staff nor systems in-place to moderate everything to our intended level of standards. We plan on improving in this regard. We hope our players understand our situation and will continue to place their faith in us, as improving these things will take time.

We're really bad with timelines, we thought the game would originally come out in march 2018 - we're working on some things (new maps, ranked, etc) and they're nearing completion. We'd like to give more concrete estimates but it's hard without layers of project management and staff, as it stands at the moment we've got 9 devs all working remotely.

Why not use some of the millions you guys got to hire a bigger team? You couldn't have possibly blown it all on hookers and blow just yet.

Thats a pretty good argument for the general population. I think your math is probably slightly off. I usually estimate monthly active users at 5-10x average concurrent playerbase, based on following games for which both numbers were available, meaning I think we have closer to 4-8% of the people who bought the game actually playing it. That doesnt really hurt your argument though.

I might equivocate by saying that the game is niche rather. 1P slasher was not a popular genre, and although Mordhau managed to hype-meme a lot of sales, it didnt manage to evolve the 1P slasher genre to the point of actually being fun to the average gamer. The same things people didnt like about Chiv etc they still dont like about Mord.

One unfortunate trend I see, for the financial viability of Triternion at least, is that the core audience of 1P slashers actively opposes changes to mechanics that would make the game more approachable. See 1 million "animation abuse" threads and similar.

Triternion is kind of between a rock and a hard place. They clearly want to make a fun game, but they also try to cater to their core audience, which seems not to even seek "fun" in a game, in preference to being able to lay their massive "skill" epeen across someone else's face. This coming from someone who is mechanically proficient, but finds the mechanics soporifically boring.

Great Question.
I am the leader of the oldest, continuous, competitive clan in Mordhau dating back to Age of Chivalry(2005) mod through Chivalry and into Mordhau. |ĶiĻă| Killers in Lethal Alliance.

Age of Chivalry - over 4000+ hours
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - 7000+ hours
Mordhau - 75 hours alpha - 388+ hours after release
There is a bot named after me in the game
Our Clan Logo is in the game. One of the most popular "Emblems" in the game and they dont even know it is a clan logo or that I designed it. ;-p
Kila Mordhau B-W2.jpg

Alpha was pretty much boring, limited maps/modes not enough players and was still busy doing clan skrims and the like in Chiv. Since we dropped Chiv for Mordhau after release, much of the game is far superior to Chiv with the exception of some server browser issues, limited admin capabilities and of course no TO. While many of the clan have adopted well to the game, I am still very much on the struggle bus with the game even at Rank 70+, a majority of the time in Frontline. While I do very well in PUBs, I am having issues in the comp scene and skill levels. I even dropped off our A-team because I am more of a hinderance than helpful.

But I personally have been struggling with the game. Something about it, is not clicking with me. It could be the animations, the timings, weapon ranges or maybe it is me and my failing hand/eye coordination (gaming has never been the same since Lasik). The game is terrible unforgiving on a single mistake, misread, or poorly timed parry. I find many weapons are getting 1-2 free hits on me. I seem to weapon cancel on map terrain/objects while my enemy swing thru it. I can hit players but rarely flinch them but I get flinched all the damn time. Projectiles fucking love me as I can be fully surrounded by enemies and I am the only one killed by they following: team mate archer. catapult, ballista, throwing axe, Jav, firepot, teammate on horse, etc. Seriously, time and time again I will be the only one killed while being surrounded. The game hates me. I also seem to have a large majorities of my stabs completely fail to hit their mark as well as 60% of my parries fail both of course are probably tied to the massive stamina drains from the never ending missed attacks. It is a wonder how I can consistantly top frag on pub servers but that could be because I am an objective whore and mostly play Frontline. So for me personally, this game pisses me off more than Chivalry archer fags one shotting me from range.

I was never a fan of dueling in Chiv and hate it even more in Mordhau, yet I force myself to do it. I am horrible at dueling. I would much rather fight 1 v X any day. But we, the clan, keep pretty busy with in the clan and we have a |ĶiĻă| Initiate Training program to teach noobs in the game, how to get better and the in and outs of competitive play. Sadly the "comp scene" is being ran by a handful of old Chiv players. They are making the same mistakes they did in Chiv, making up the rules, limiting comp size, limiting maps, weapons, in game assets and dumbing it down to 5v5-7v7(if you are lucky). Basically doing the same stupid shit they did in Chiv that divided the elites from the public. But the biggest problem is that they have little to no outreach or training. Few if any have a training program to get players interested in competitive play. Hell, most normie Mordhau players have no idea there is even any organized play let alone competitive tournaments, skrims and pugs minus what they might find by yet again a handful of YouTubers. Normies have no idea how to even get into the comp scene, nor do they know what is expected.

Normies tend to hop in and get stomped by the comp players but that is pretty much expected in any game. There are a handful of troll players but I think there are more whiners than there are tolls. If you are getting offended by what morons are saying in chat, you are not playing the game. I rarely if ever read the chat as I am too busy playing and in our discord shooting the shit. But I will say that there is a lot of stupid/ignorant players in the game that just have no clue as to what they are doing, what should be done to win a game along with a huge dose of autism where players are fighting over catapults and horses and stupid shit like that.

BTW how do you break a map like Crossroads by "improving" it? It was at least playable before but nerfing the radius of the Mortor that was barely used as it was. is just stupid and makes it completely useless. Creating a choke point that was designed as spawn protection ends up being a killing field run = genius. I cannot wait for the SDK to be released as I could care less about ranked dueling but that is just me.

Last week, I pretty much took a break from actually playing the game, still did clan stuff as managing a clan our size and age can be a big job. While our A team is very solid, our B team is really getting stronger and our C team is learning, I have limited my comp play as the game just isnt doing it for me or me for it.!

... they didn't even test Frontline, Battle Royale, or Horde mode, during the entire 2 years of alpha? And they think using the full release as a test for these modes isn't going to have a major affect on player retention?

I don't see the players as the problem with the comp scene getting no attention. It's kind of fucked up that they devs haven't done one single thing to promote it at all, they don't even publicly acknowledge the current scenes existence really. In fact didn't they say something like "if it happens we will support it" but it has already happened lol, and this statement might as well be a denial of its current existence.
The comp scene is what this game is built off of, so incorporating that into the game would maybe have been smart? Directing people towards already organized communities that will train nubs, instead of a video that doesn't actually help them?
