Hey there are like 28 other sad cuck threads we don't need another one. Go complain with them.

I've seen lots of overpriced hosting resellers, so I decided to make one that did their job for free.

Features

  • Super easy setup. Method 1: Signup to Vultr.com (referral), copy and paste the API key into my dashboard and thats it.
  • Free $50 credit if you use the referral link.
  • Method 2: One line install script for hosting anywhere else using the comboList method.
  • Both methods automatically setup the Mordhau server and my API for communicating with the dashboard
  • UI based settings editor - https://puu.sh/DE6OP/aa7411336c.png
  • Other settings - https://puu.sh/DE6ND/e46c5dc182.png
  • UI based map picker - https://puu.sh/DCp7s/ef9a45dcc9.png
  • Equipment blacklist. Remove shields, armour, ranged/regular weapons and throwables from your server
  • Run multiple mordhau instances per server and allocate CPU cores
  • Synchronise banlists between servers
  • Config templates for loading a set of predefined settings & maps
  • Raw Game.ini + Engine.ini editing from the dash. Queue changes and have them come into affect next time you restart.
  • Automatic steam updates after restart
  • Change the daily restart schedule or restart manually at any time
  • Server list with title, IP, region, status and realtime info on current map and player count - https://puu.sh/DE6RD/fc19d94b17.png
  • No registration. If you choose to host on Vultr.com you need to create an account there.
  • Vultr.com has SSD Hosting and hourly billing (perfect if you just want to try it out)
  • Easily host 24 people on a $5 server with 120 tick. That's $0.20 a slot. Unbeatable.

Vultr.com Locations
New Jersey - US, Chicago - US, Dallas - US, Seattle - US, Los Angeles - US, Atlanta - US, Amsterdam - NL, London - GB, Frankfurt - DE, Silicon Valley - US, Sydney - AU, Toronto - CA, Paris - FR, Tokyo - JP, Miami - US, Singapore - SG

Steps for Vultr.com

OR

Steps - Combolist - Advanced users

  • Choose a host and create a CentOS 7 machine
  • SSH into the machine and execute the one line install script below, replacing RANDOM_PASS with a unique string that you have saved somewhere.

    curl -s https://admin.nx.ie/setup.sh | bash -s "RANDOM_PASS"

  • Go to https://admin.nx.ie input your combo list in the format of machineaddress:randompassword and login. You will need to click the Needs authorising button, then advanced and then proceed when first loading the server in the dashboard. Details on this are below.

Security considerations

  • Why does it say it is insecure in the address bar when I'm setting up my server and why do I need to click "Needs Authorising"?
To communicate with the server from the browser, I wanted to use SSL for security reasons. I chose to use a self signed SSL certificate that is generated on your machine when it first boots up. Browsers do not recognise these certificates, but it was the only option I had, as any free SSL cert providers do not issue them for IP addresses, only for domains. And having domains involved for your server would overcomplicate the process even more.

  • Is it safe to share your Vultr API Key?
Not really. I would ideally like to communicate directly with their API when you input your token, but because of CORS browser rules, I need it sent to to a server and then passed to them. These keys are not stored on the server, but for extra safety you should create a user on your Vultr account that only has the provisioning and subscription ACLs, then use the API key from that account instead. You can also change the password of your machine through them after the provisioning is done. This will give less access to your machine than a regular host reseller would have, as Vultr has no way of recovering access after details are changed, and after provisioning, my application does not need access to your machine, only the meta info that the API provides in order to avoid my server storing anything.

Planned features

  • Update password endpoint on the game server API. Will remove any access the initial steps had access to.
  • Port it to other steam games with server support. Little changes in the API and provisioning required for this, but the dashboard would need to be reworked.
  • Automatic mordhau updates. Currently just requires you to restart.
  • Automatic API updates
  • Export entire server config to a single text file
  • Anonymously submitted usage stats

I generally don't like server advertisements in forum topics, but I see a lot of people complaining about the things in the title, so I thought they might appreciate knowing this exists.

I like the objective play of frontline but everyone gets frustrated when they just want to chop some heads off and can't even leave spawn without getting catapulted, killed by a horse or blocked by a team mate. I appreciate these things exist, but always good to have options.

Full list of things blocked on this server
https://pastebin.com/raw/1hfQqad9

One server is located in London and another in New York. You can connect in the console with the commands below

London server

open 134.209.27.52

or search

[EU] Gambit's FL - No range/horse/catapult/shield - NX.IE

or just search

NX.IE

New York server

open 165.227.85.7

or search

[NA] 48 slot FL - No horses/catapults/ranged - NAE4.NX.IE

Some noteworthy settings

  • 0.2 team damage
  • 120 tick
  • Default map is grad
  • All frontline maps are in rotation

If you feel something should be added back just comment below. Only thing I'm currently considering is smoke bombs.

We can't force each other to be exactly the way we want the other to be. If you dont like that server name, don't join them. It may go away naturally from being unpopular.

I understand feeling cringe at reading a word or phrase, but it's really best to just let it go and worry about bigger things

That is an awful comparison.

Server names are one thing I definitely think should be filtered, if not from a moral standpoint but a Mordhau publicity one. Imagine the amount of google results come up with Mordhau and nigger because of battlemetric listings. ISPs and parental filters will start classing it as a hate website.

Forum signatures are cool, but this forum doesn't have them yet. As a workaround I made a tampermonkey script to automatically include your own signature with each post. If this is against the rules, I am sorry, please delete the thread and forgive me.

This is great if you want to advertise your servers etc. but try not abuse it. Keep them fairly short.

Steps to use this

  • Install tampermonkey
  • Click the tampermonkey icon right of the address bar or in the top your browsers settings dropdown
  • Click create a new script and put this in it
  • Replace the line "I have a signature" with whatever you want. This follows the same formatting as a regular forum post.
  • Hit File > Save or CTRL + S and you're done.

You can remove or disable it at any time. Your signature will be appended to the bottom of every post unless it is already there.
To change the breaker between your post and the signature, modify the contents of the line with signatureBreak on it.

Also make sure there is always at least one linebreak between the end of your post and your signature when writing posts.

They've already said it's going to happen, no need to drag it out. Those kinds of threads get the most responses, take over the front page and are just full of complete toxicity. I feel they should be closed sooner if anything. This isn't 4chan or a community run forum, it's a business. They can censor it all they want.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a roadmap. Also from the recent announcement and the edit they made about mod support it seems like it's very low on the priority list, but still planned.
They can't exactly focus all of their energy on it either though, because some of the devs are hired specifically for level design and the rest need to manage the other issues. I hope they hire more people to sort out mods soon though, as it would definitely have the biggest impact on the player base.

It's more productive to release larger updates so I can understand why they do it with such a small team. Managing different development branches, dealing with release issues and handling PR would all require a lot more work. Also we saw what happened when crossroads got released so I'm sure they want to nail down everything before releasing.
I agree though, we need updates more often. I hardly play Mordhau anymore and would like to see it being given some more love.

Just stab them when they start it, they don't actually get any benefit from spinning. Just trying to throw you off.

The forums work perfectly well. The heart system tells readers what people's posts are worth reading thoroughly, and taking seriously.

In your case, a nearly negative 2.0 heart to comment ratio, reading the first sentence should suffice before the reader stops feeling obligated to continue reading, simply because your heart to comment ratio indicates low quality posts.

So it's a perfectly operational self-moderating system. (though you have to watch out for those who stack hearts in the off topic section)

The forums work,

After looking at your H/C ratio, this ^ is as far as I got... And I would have to agree! They work very well don't they?

Forum is well organised, and it's easy to check user history and easy to post videos and shit. Works well overall... a little slow loading at times for me I guess

There's even a "website and forum feedback" section you could have slotted this thread into, but I guess that's why his H/C ratio is where it's at...

I'm not begging for likes in every post by making some arrogant comment though.

The forum is far from organised. You have to scroll for 10 mins just to pass a section that could be listed in 3 lines and only display its latest post or few recent posts. Because of this, the only active section is General and everything else goes unnoticed. And with hiding all of a categories posts, you could fit 10x the amount of categories on the one page, each being way more accessible and accurately filled. The announcements section, the most important because it is listed first, is filled with posts you only read once. Most of which should be removed as they are years old. Bugs and glitches + feedback and suggestions should either be one section, one page or even just a single post. Off topic should come after general, not at the end. That way half the crap that goes into general will have a place and get noticed. Giant header images for each board are unnecessary and a waste of space. Pagination for boards should not require you to get redirected twice, as stated by OP. Most of the pinned topics are also barely relevant to the section and could be posted in a guides page.

These things honestly don't annoy me enough to make a topic about it, but for you to just ignore everything OP said so that you can take the piss out of him for a few likes really annoys me and really gets OPs point across even more.

I also imagine this isn't inhouse written software, but a 3rd party forum board. So I completely respect that updates like this are not feasible at this moment in time. Just saying it works is silly though as it is definitely something worth discussing and requesting improvements on.

I wanted a way to see what's popular in the community in order to make decisions on where to create servers and what maps/modes to choose from. So this morning I came up with this

https://mordhau.nx.ie/stats

Included stats

  • Online player count by gamemode/map/region/country
  • Server count by max players, to see which sizes are most popular
  • Active server count by max players (servers with more than 1 player online)
  • Servers by region/OS (windows/linux)/Country
  • Active servers by region/OS/Country

A fun fact that came out of this was that there is almost 3 times as many windows servers than Linux. But linux takes the majority in terms of active servers.
Also, 6 slot servers are the most popular. Would not have guessed that.

The design is currently shit, and I might have messed up somewhere in the aggregation, but I will work on it more when I get a chance.

Also the data is updated every 20 mins, and below is an example of one of the pie charts.

The spawn zone should be inaccessible to the enemy team block building and I think it would solve this issue. I'm sure in the future we'll have the option to disable buildings, traps, archers etc. as being able to do this on duel servers would be very beneficial.

The latest update for the server files now includes a third party plugin called mod.io which according to their docs is supported on Ubuntu/Debian and Fedora. Since the update, running the mordhau binary gives the error below

/home/steam/mordhau/Mordhau/Binaries/Linux/MordhauServer-Linux-Shipping: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl-gnutls.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I've tried rebuilding CURL with gnutls support, symlinking curl to the gnutls path and removing the third party plugin files, all to no avail.
I know curl is a fairly standard linux lib, but the gnutls support that mod.io needs just doesn't seem to be working.

The mordhau server creation dashboard I made relies on CentOS 7, so a lot of people have been messaging about their servers being broken. I went with CentOS because it could handle more players for the same price and it would be a shame if it stopped being supported.

If anyone has any solutions it would be great if you could share them.

Oh great. I'm sure that not listening to playerbase feedback ends very well. I mean, everybody loves getting griefed, right?

And I'm sure your encouraging approach makes them want to read it even more.

Out of 3300 servers, why do you think your one deserves a pin on the front page of the forum?

99.9% of all of those servers are exactly the same my friend,

We offer a totally diff style of experience that's really a lot of fun while throwing in some optional training mechanics and things that can make you a better player and are just plain awesome.

For instance have you ever experienced multiple chambers in mid air
or a jump over hander to some ones head, or upward slash jump kills?
The feeling is so epic and you cant get that anywhere but our server.

Wouldn't you want to know about some epic stuff you were missing out on daily?

I know I would.

Its a complete gimmick. Most people do not enjoy it and I gaurentee no skilled players regularly come to your server. It's worth having slomo servers, and I give you props for running one, but no server should have a pinned post. And especially not an extremely niche one.
