I can agree with the shield sustain and was going to recommend just that before reading what you wrote about it. If I’m facing against a good shield warrior (usually in duels) I’ll slow my pace a bit and just play the stamina game with them, which if you are patient they will never win. In frontline or team death match it’s usually not an option because you don’t have the freedom to duel players for extended amounts of time so I’ll throw kicks, swing around them or just jump into an overhead swing for a head shot. I find that the majority of shield users in frontline are pretty inexperienced so it’s usually not hard to get around them. Also, BECAUSE of sustain issues, most players players don’t just turtle up as you’re mindlessly hacking at them. They will often drop guard and make a mistake sooner or later. I feel like “regular shield” users (excluding targe and buckler) are at a disadvantage anyways because they lack a parry and suffer from major stamina drain.

As for the shield wall or a whole company of shield warriors, I’ve yet to come across such a thing but would be interesting to see

This isn’t neccesrrily a post for discussion although if anyone agrees or disagrees with my input or has anything to add or suggest extra feedback is welcome. I just want to share my experiences and thoughts on current systems as a new player to this game and genre and to give feedback on things I would like to see in the future.

  1. Leveling and progression - The current leveling and progression system in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired. I do like that your created toons don’t increase in power as they level which puts everyone on an even playing field outside of the practical experience gained through just playing the game.

However, I think more in depth customization would make leveling more impactful. What I mean, is at the moment once your account reaches a certain level you can unlock certain weapons, skins and armor. To elaborate on this I would like to see individual leveling per item. For instance gaining “x” amount of experience with the long sword by getting kills or taking objectives would subsequently level up that item unlocking unique dyes and weapon skins. This would, in my opinion add a layer of depth to the leveling experience that would make me want to keep coming back for more and more.

  1. Combat and matchmaking - There are currently no ranked systems in place and I am sure that is on the radar to be implemented at some point but for now the game seems to be a melding pot for players of all experiences and skill. I am new to the genre as a whole but have been playing games for 25+ years and I must say that this game has one of, if not the most, steepest learning curves out of anything else I’ve played. I actually enjoy that and the challenge of learning and advancing my skill makes me log in every single day. This however could be discouraging to others. It would be nice to see an MMR system put in place to pin players of equivalent skill and experience with each other to make the learning curve less punishing and more gradual. I believe this would make people feel better about their personal progression without having to rely so much on ganking or backstabs to get kills and would allow them to focus on honing actual combat skills. Not that the aforementioned ways aren’t viable..

  2. Maps - I know this is brought up constantly but I would like to reiterate what is being said through my own personal experience.

I like the idea of 64 player battles and maybe even more in the future. But currently a lot the maps feel quite small even if they are not. Because there is only one objective active at a time the game often turns into a mosh pit with swords. This, in my opinion greatly detracts from the intricacies of combat this game has to offer. I think a good solution to this is to have sub objectives that can also help sway the tides of battle outside of just all players focusing on one point. Some good suggestions I’ve come across include siege weapons that must be captured by a team to use them such as Ballistas or extra horse stables. Maps such as grad are nice and open and really feel like a battlefield but much more of the map could be utilized in some way. If new sub objectives were added this would allow for the creation of bigger maps in the future without feeling like the maps are TOO big with nothing to do in them.

Overall this is a great game and has a lot of potential. I understand this game is in its infancy and will grow in time I just hope the developers listen to the communities constructive criticism as I find the ones with the most loyal players bases always do. Cheers.
