Well I have read everyone. In my opinion it is important to be able to change weight AND height. These changes would really bring a deep immersion in the game and improve customisation. But it is also important that your morphology brings advantages and disadvantages:

  • the more you are big/fat, the more you do damage (only with heavy weapons: two handed weapons, hammer, flail, mace...) but you have a larger hit surface
  • the more you are thin, the less you are easy to hit but you do less damage with heavy weapons
  • the more you are tall, the better is your reach to hit the enemy but you have a larger hit surface
  • the more you are small, the less you are easy to hit but your reach is diminished.
This parameters would play a significant impact in the game, but not as important as the choice of the weapon or the armor, and of course less important than the skills of the player.
Thanks to have read me and taken into account my recommendations (I hope).

This has all been suggested before and this has all been denied before.
Stuff like that would not benefit the game in any way and would just lead to inconsistency which we do not want in a competitive title.

(dark)brown and red-ish tbh

I do not agree with you, das.
I do not mind third person in racing games at all. You do not actively fight other players in that, the added visibility helps you stay on track and all that. It's actually one of the few genres where it is or can be beneficial.
And no, third person does not work fine for "many" PvP games. I consider all of the games you listed shit, with the excpetion of SMITE which is pretty okay I guess.

However, I'll just leave it at that for now and I'll see how bad it actually is once we get something playable and then rejudge.
Thanks for bothering to type all that stuff out tho I guess.

Holy shit 3 pages and this thread is still not derailed. Good job, guys.

As for the topic, I somewhat understand Maci but I still think 3rd person must be in this kind of game. Videogames are supposed to be fun, you cannot just force a person to play the way he doesn't want just because "hardcote players like it this way". I agree with Alphonse's idea on limiting keybinding. And plus, Mordhau needs a bigger community and Devs have to make some changes to the game to attract more people or there will be noone to play with.

Why do all of you assume that Mordhau will struggle with playercounts?
I do not believe that, infact, I think quite the opposite will be true.

Just look at how known it is and how positive the usual response is. Look at the views on their videos, the fact that it actually has a huge russian fanbase and several smaller ones for different languages. The fact that we are here discussing this right now. All of that was achieved with zero marketing. It was all people liking what they saw and telling their friends. I've never seen a noname game "explode" this much without any help from huge YouTubers or similar.

So why do these games not rely on multiple camera angles? Each and every one of them sticks to one camera angle during gameplay, and CS:GO is even exclusively first person 100% of the time, at least in comp. I'll tell you why; it's not possible to balance gameplay arround two totally different camera angles.

There will be people not buying into a first/third person mix. I wasn't talking exclusively about Chiv veterans, but about general potential customers. There are plenty of people that do understand that third person is never a good thing in a PvP game. These people tend to boycott games that do have a third person option, and I'm one of them. I do not mind third person in singleplayer stuff at all, as long as it is optional or the game is designed arround it. Mordhau is no singleplayer game, it is a comp. first person slasher. Yes, there are people that do get motion sickness in games with shitty first person, but you won't get that if you are able to adjust the FoV, or at the very least that will solve most cases. Those people are ultra rare and the fact that we have a FoV slider basically reduced that to like 10% of the ultra rare.

Also, it's not about allowing more diverse people into this game, this isn't some fucking american startup or something, it's a videogame. You like the concept and execution of this videogame? Go for it. You do not like it? Don't go for it. It's that simple. You can't try and give everyone everything they want or you'll end up with a mess of a game that was once a good idea but barely resembles that anymore.

What this game needs is to be unique, and the general idea of it is. There is no other first person comp. melee title out there and people do thirst for one. If people prefer third person then they have the option to switch to plenty of alternatives, not so for the first person crowd that usually doesn't get any love in melee titles for whatever reason. I do support the idea of having a third person option for server owners, but keep that shit out of the official ones. It only leads to inconsistency, cheesy playstyles and other things that we do absolutely not want in any game that even remotely tries to sell itself as a competitive title.

If you guys are right and the devs pull off the best third person camera ever with all the issues big AAA companies are fighting with since years fixed such as peeking arround corners, being able to clip the camera through objects, being unable to see behind you or to your sides and all that other bullshit (which is unlikely to impossible) why would you even bother with third person cameras then? The fact that they NEED to really really gimp third person so it doesn't become a borderline cheat clearly shows that this is a first person game and that third person is not only glued on, but completely out of place.

I do not understand why this is needed, nor will I support it if they really decide to go down this road. It is their game and they are free to do whatever they want, they owe me or any of us nothing, but they may lose a couple of fans that have been arround since the very beginning which includes but is not limited to me.

if it's balanced

And that's the problem.
You can't balance it, it always gives you the upper hand even if only slightly.
The obvious stuff is peeking arround corners which may give you no advantage in toe to toe combat, but it allows you to fuck up people's ambushes, call out enemy positions to archers and all that banterpiss while being 100% safe of not being hit or seen.

You either make a first person game, or you make a third person one. Third person players will develop a different approach to standard playstyle than first person players, that's a fact. What we will end up with is basically two different communities that more or less play two different games. This is not what I imagined when I started following Slasher what is now three years ago. They wanted to make a first person Slasher, they wanted to make Chivalry but good, they wanted to not spread their anus to the casuals by dumbing things down. I liked that, it seemed promising and it seemed like they actually had the balls to pull it off, but now we have this shit here.

Some people may not care, sure. Some people may prefer third person anyways, yeah.
But Mordhau has a pretty big silent fanbase which got interested in the game because it was being "sold" as a first person Slasher, not as For Honor but with good combat. You'll be winning quite some new potential buyers with this move, but you'll also fuck with a lot of long-time followers and the hardcore crowd in general.

What the fuck, they've literally confirmed that third person has been an idea for ages, and that it'd be turned off in ranked and official servers. No one is forcing you to go on the community unofficial servers, you dumb pillock.

They are talking about third person on official servers here. Fucking britbong.

Aaaaaand pretty much all of my hype just died.
Good job, another Title being ruined by forcing casual shit onto people that do not want it.

The only true answer here is Rocket League.

Objectively a shitty game that has been done numerous times before and after which owes all its success to POODIEPIEXD style YouTubers which attracted all the kids who fail to realize that there are far better soccer car games out there.
