Just pointing this out, the biggest playtest the developers could do is a 5v5, assuming all of them are present and available. They have no way of knowing what it will be like for a full 32v32 server.

Tbh things like "how having movable cata on defense is going to be utilised" or "should we put in RNG Treb volleys" require zero playtesting. Just very basic common sense.

Yeah this is why I'm not on board either:

  • FW costs 3 points, points you could've otherwise spent on better armor or weapons.

This would be true if lower cost meant worse weapon, which is not the case, especially in duels.

If you want to play BS you have one of the best weapons and you can easily afford Flesh Wound on top of it. 1/2/1 Mace (8 pts) htk-wise is superior to 3/3/3 LS (14pts).

It's common knowledge that advance of medieval troops was historically best countered by a strong line of dudes magically spawning self-building wood constructions right in front of the enemy.

Frontline is mostly unsalvageable, so it's best devs don't waste any resources working on it and make sure the new game mode is good.

Let's not clutter the kick process with extra votes that are just going to annoy players.

If someone manages to kill 5 people by accident, it will be a good lesson for him to not swing like an idiot.

Dear devs, I just went to South America and was told by the locals that they don't give shit about ranked servers and the last guy who wanted to give them one was beaten to death with crowbars by some favela thugs in broad daylight. I got the feeling they would be interested in BR and Horde servers though, as these modes are widely popular there.

That's a hotfix though

More like coldfix since it took 2 years to do anything about shields.

People will come back when there is a good main gamemode to play. Duels are fine, but rather niche, the rest of changes were definitely improvements, but overall a drop in a bucket tbh.

Invasion will be do or die.

I'd argue that the balance changes were absolute garbage, especially the kick and accel buffs, which, funnily enough, is why they will be reverted in a hotfix soon. The thing I am looking forward to is shields getting banned in ranked until shield nerfs come.

I meant more like long overdue game quality improvements to make FL slightly less terrible (changes to horses, fire, TD % in votekick, etc). Balance is still a circus, you can argue if removing the bearded lady from the show is a change for better or worse, but does it really matter?

Is this nerf really justified?

Poleaxe stab headshot damage vs plate helmet reduced to 45 (from 50)

Poleaxe - 3 HTK on T3 head
Dagger, Cleaver - 3 HTK on T3 torso

Title incorrectly implies shield balance ever existed.

Yeah, when we were left for I think 7 (?) months with the atrocious kick-hunting patch in alpha I was like "why wouldn't they just reverse kick change so this game is at least half-playable for us?". Then I was like "OK, there's like 100 active players, they already paid for the game, so devs just don't need to give a shit about them and can keep silent for half a year with no repercussions" . I fully expected everyone to be at their best behavior when game releases though.

Well, no, it's the same as it's ever been and population already went down the drain. Give it 2 more weeks and player numbers will be at the levels of Chiv in early 2017.

TL:DR - skill cap is high and pushes impatient/mediocre players away.

-> 40 people trying to blindly hack at both enemies and teammates as many times as possible before an incoming catapult shot kills half of them, in a 10x10ft area while being on fire and getting trampled by a horse

-> Skill cap

and god do I wish the dev team was 15 people, 5 extra people to get shit done would be literally like 200% faster.

I doubt it would help much, because all these constistently terrible decisions are made by someone who is already on the team and it's not something a few new hires would be able to fix.

i still really like the mechanics (mostly because i've never played a "competitive" first person slasher before) but yeah it's still a very very "indie" game and all the problems i had with it at the start turned out to be universally complained about by everyone else later instead of it going away with playtime (just kick shields lol!), which confirms my theory that the really really good beta players are just insanely stockholm syndromed.

the vast majority of alpha players thought shields were shit and have always been shit lmao what are you on about

what da fuck. why didn't they change it then. isn't that the point of an alpha. lol

Every big problem in this game you can think of now, was beaten to death in alpha - shields, animations, instas, frontline, horses, firepots, spawnblocking, you name it. They remained like that because of devs decisions to keep them in such state, not because nobody had noticed for year and a half in alpha.

Recently, an interest in a shield rework was expressed, then decided against because devs believe it would do more harm than good to the game's playerbase with shield crutchers being deprived of hold-RMB.

Wait, what?

So shields will remain unchaged?

through as in through as in completely through as in the whole way through as in through something that something being a riposte and through the riposte through it as in completely through it as in not someone intelligently spamming attacks and then reacting but someone just blindly spamming attacks through the riposte through the RIPOSTE THROUGH THE RIPOSTE THROUGH THE RIPOSTE THROUGH THE RIPOSTE

To which I replied that if he's spamming through riposte because he knows it's a good gamble to take and is not a retard with no parry bind, he can just FTP your accelerated riposte. Now, by the rules of Mordhau combat, he's allowed a riposte himself. With a super fast weapon (as the title suggests). While you are in a compromised position looking away from him because of the accel. Which makes it a meh counter at best and further proves that super fast weapons make for retarded fights.

oh my fucking god why did I bother responding

Yep, you are clearly out of your depth. Train more and then get back to me.

I don't know what you don't understand about the word "through" but apparently this conversation is pointless

Player X ripostes
Player Y gambles into his riposte

Is that what you mean by spamming through?

You need to get good enough to actually react to their attacks and parry them. If they're spamming through your riposte, then you should accel your riposte as hard as you can, you'll hit them first.

But if they parry your super hard accel, you will get fucked by their riposte.

500 ms should be minimal windup in this game, everything faster is just lazy design.

That's why I said "if they're spamming through your riposte"

They can still ftp and riposte you while you are looking into the ground or who knows where.

"spamming through your riposte"

Did we get a patch which makes it impossible to ftp when gambling against a riposte?
