I think the scene-wide blue tint really sells the cold feeling of the map, personally, eye strain aside.
It's an artistic thing.

As for how the system works, it's based on MMR. You derank on loss, and rank up on victory. It'll make more sense once you get your placement.

Triternion as far as I'm aware take LODing and map optimisation extremely seriously. I recall them implementing custom versions of point lights and such early in alpha, and hearing devs talk about the techniques they use to squeeze as much performance out of maps as possible.

So most likely what happened was, the map is complete, but now they're optimising the shit out of every single asset in it to an extreme and probably unnecessary degree.

As usual, comp scene is left to make-believe their own game modes and events.
Despite competitive mordhau being one of the coolest and most impressive things to spectate, the biggest competitive event we've gotten has been from the likes of Venatus, and biggest overall was probably the twitch rivals stream.

A new 12 player max comp mode, ranked 3v3, and some kind of leaderboard is desperately required.

Unreal Engine 4 uses PhysX to drive it's physics calculations/interactions, so yes, Mordhau uses PhysX.

Have you tried setting CPU priority to high? I have a 5700xt myself and I noticed that helped smooth things out.

From my tests, gold gain is your play time on a given server, multiplied by some value that relates to the amount of kills you have in proportion to everyone else in the server.
