Shield is a problem the moment it makes you ignore various parts of the combat system like morphs, accels, timing, drags, feints and mindgames in 1vX.

That is a bad design for shields and you can't deny that. This game was not meant to please all audiences, if you want to win, you should take your time, play several hours and learn all the combat mechanics.

Its not fair for the non shield user. Why should I learn all the combat mechanics in order to beat people and the shield user don't? Why can the shield user just go brainless mode and still win?

Thats just not fair.

I know this topic has been discussed for a long time since the first patches of the alpha but I think there is no possible balance for shields without the implementation of new mechanics (changing stats won’t solve any problem and would make playing shields a chore or an autowin).

The problem with shields is that they break the gameplay melee loop of timing an incoming attack and react to it in a fun and balanced way. Currently, if you have a shield, you don’t need to worry about drags, accels, feints, morphs or mind games (which it what makes the
combat in Mordhau fun and skilled) because you can simply press RMB and sit there blocking waiting for the attack. We all know that kicks “counter” shields but any decent shield player will know that and play around it (also thats a bad design to counter something so unfair imo)

The solution is the implementation of a mechanic for shields:

Change block to a two part block when holding a shield. The first part last like a normal parry with a 1h or 2h weapon. If you keep holding RMB the second part of the block activates. This part is a weaker version of the first and will block the attack but you will take damage (the damage is the damage of the weapon that hits you but reduced by a percentage) and
lose half the percentage of the damage reduced as stamina as well. This would make 1v1 fights skilled again but punishable for bad shield users.

Finally remove kick stun on shields and make shields hitbox accurate for their size but increase turn speed when blocking; make fire pots and smoke bombs that hit a blocking shield break and disappear (blocking all the effects).

This will make shields more important in big game modes like FrontLine where a lot of projectiles are thrown and fair to play as and against in 1v1 and 1vX.

Edit: removed the second mechanic (displacing shield users after a hit on a bad block and thus flinching teammates that are nearby).

And for the sake of every single person interested in the game - with alpha access or without - go over what the current plans for development are, update the roadmap, shine a light on the future of the game. What happened to female characters? How many more maps can we expect? How many modes? When are we going to hear more of the soundtrack? Say where the game is heading so that we may know before we reach it.

When a dev post a comment in a topic there is a mark next to the topic that let you know what he just said, but you can only see the first comment of the dev in the entire topic so i was wondering if it could be possible to create a button next to every dev reply that "teleport" you to the next dev comment. Would be very helpful imo
