I solved the issue!!! (with my PC at least) the problem lied in the 2 extra sticks of RAM I installed. Not sure what's wrong with them because they're exactly the same as the other ones that are still in my PC but I removed them and I played the game for about 7 hours straight with no crashes at all. Fingers crossed it stays that way. So my recommendation is try messing around with your RAM to find a solution. I've heard of people altering the RAM clock speeds to fix the same issue; worst case scenario at least RAM isn't that expensive, I'd try some new sticks if you still can't find out what's wrong.

EDIT: I think the problem is finally solved!!! The issue lied in the RAM. So i tried virtually everything I could as far as software and settings go so I moved on to start messing with hardware. To start, I tried removing the additional two new sticks of RAM that I bought for Black Friday bringing me back down to 16 GB instead of 32; yes, they were the same as the original two I had installed, however I bought them off of Amazon (Maybe there was something different or wrong with them?). I just got done playing the game for about 7 hours straight as a good stress-test with no crashes! Weird though, maybe the RAM was no good or something about having all of my RAM slots occupied on my motherboard made things go haywire?? I don't know, but at least it's fixed for now...hopefully I'm not jinxing it as I update this post lol

Hello all! I'm here because I'm just about out of options to try to fix this issue. Brace yourselves, this is gonna be a long one. Dev's, please help! Even if this isn't an issue with the game, if you could help us all figure out what the issue is, maybe we can get closer to a fix. I know for a fact many other people have this issue and very few of them have had any luck fixing it, and it renders the game nearly unplayable. This has become one of my all-time favorite games, I'd love to be able to run it with no issues.

1. What's Happening
In short, Mordhau will crash randomly almost every time I try to play it. Usually it's while in an online game, but that's not the only time it happens; it can happen in a single player match with bots, at the menu, and sometimes even when the game is starting up. Sometimes I can play for almost an hour without a crash, but more commonly it crashes between 10-20 minutes of gameplay (sometimes faster). It usually crashes to the Mordhau crash reporter and I have sent every single report from every crash I can, however sometimes it crashes my entire PC giving me the "Blue screen of death" and restarts my PC. Other times it has frozen my PC entirely and I've had to reboot via the power button. There's not really any way to recreate it, it just happens. I suspect this could be an Unreal Engine 4 issue; I also bought Jedi Fallen Order for Christmas and it does the same thing. No other games cause issues on my PC even after hours of gaming.

2. My PC Build
OS: Windows 10
CPU: AMD FX 6350 3.9GHz (liquid cooled by Corsair H80i GT)
GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 390 8GB
Motherboard: ASUS M5A99FX pro
RAM: GSKILL Ripjaws X (4 sticks, 32GB total)
Hard drive: Samsung SSD 850 EVO
Power Supply: Thermaltake 750 W
The build is almost 5 years old and has been running strong. Never really had any major issues running any games before. Always keep everything up to date and it is pretty much a dedicated gaming computer besides using it for college work.

4. What I've Tried Doing Already
I've tried nearly everything from every forum from Steam, Mordhau, Epic, Reddit, and other random places from the internet. I'm going to do my best to summarize everything here in an orderly fashion.

  • Run Steam as Administrator
  • Disabled Antivirus/Firewall
  • Verify Integrity of Game Files via Steam
  • Played using lowest graphics settings and all optional effects disabled (potato graphics)
  • Tried switching from fullscreen to windowed
  • Set framerate from 60 to 59 to match my displays (don't hate, they were free...)
  • Reinstalled Graphics drivers
    • Tried most current and a few older drivers
    • Tried using Radeon Software to install AND Display Driver Uninstaller tool for clean uninstall/install
  • Tried launching the game using DirectX 11 and 12
  • Set power plan setting to 'High Performance'
  • Tried underclocking GPU at different rates using Radeon Software AND MSI Afterburner
    • Underclock varied from -5% to -30% with crashes still persisting
    • (all temps and readouts look nominal for both gpu and cpu by the way)
    • Also tried giving the GPU a little more voltage (~5%)
  • Tried not running any GPU software such as MSI Afterburner/Radeon Software
  • Cleared Shader Cache
  • Set Priority to 'High' for Mordhau in Task Manager
  • Installed Unreal Engine 4 locally and kept it up to date
  • Clean Reinstall of Steam and Mordhau
  • Tried running the UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe file located in the file path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mordhau\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us
    • not sure what this actually does, but it looked promising
  • Got fed up and nuked the PC (performed a FACTORY RESET) and kept things to bare minimum
    • completely wiped everything including all files, docs, videos, pics... EVERYTHING
    • clean install of Windows 10
    • installed steam
    • installed Mordhau
    • other misc items like Discord, iCue software (keyboard/mouse LED's) etc.
    • game still crashes...
  • After the Factory Reset, I repeated some of the following steps
    • Run as admin
    • disable antivirus/firewall
    • Potato graphics
    • tried different graphics drivers versions (old and new) again (using DDU)
    • GPU tuning, and by that I mean underclocking. (Also tried not tuning at all)
    • Considered throwing the PC out the window, managed to calm down before doing so
Pretty sure there's a few more things that I'm forgetting. Doesn't matter a whole lot because nothing worked. The game still consistently crashes just as much and just as randomly as it did before I tried any of those solutions. I'm pretty sure that narrows down quite a bit of problems, and I'm at a loss as to what's causing it. I'm a novice when it comes to programming, so I just randomly fumble through the crash report text file and google lines that look fishy to try to find out more and that's what has led me to most of those recommended actions. In the next section I'm going to include some of those crash reports if I'm able to.

4. Other Links and Attachments
So it looks like the easiest way to share files with all of you reading this is to use google drive. I'm posting the link to the folder --> here <-- you'll have to take my word for it that I don't have any sketchy links. I'm not trying to wreck your computer... I just really, really want to get back to playing Mordhau :'(

What's in the google drive folder:
DxDiag.txt - the DxDiag of my PC so you can verify hardware and software/driver versions and all that jazz.
Crash1-5 folders - the folders from the Mordhau Crash Reporter client that contain the actual crash reports in them.
LinksToOtherPeopleWithThisIssue.txt - a text document of links to other posts in forums from Mordhau/Unreal Engine 4 that suffer from the same issue

If I think of other helpful things to include in this google folder I'll upload them and update this section accordingly.

5. Conclusion
I freakin love this game and I just want to get back to playing it. I'll try to keep up on this post and reply to comments and recommendations and update it accordingly, as I put a lot of time and effort in this post hoping it helps both me and the many others that have this issue. I put as much detail that I possibly could hoping that if developers or other tech savvy people are reading this they can give better feedback. Wherever the problem lies, whether it's hardware/drivers, Unreal Engine 4, or the games themselves, hopefully we can pinpoint it and get past this issue! It's been around for quite a while. If you made it this far in the post, thank you for your time if you're trying to help, and if you're suffering from this problem, upvote/comment so we can get it more attention!

I also have the same issue. Very, very, very frustrating, been dealing with it with any game that runs on unreal engine 4. If you guys have any games that run on UE4 check it out and see if you get the same crash with the “failed to load shader library” errors. I bought Jedi Fallen Order around Christmas time and it crashes every 5 minutes with the same errors. With Mordhau I can get lucky and play a few games, but sometimes it crashes in 5-10 minutes as well. I’ve tried everything I’ve found on the internet including but not limited to:

  • verifying game file integrity via steam
  • updating all hardware drivers
  • updating UE4
  • clean install of drivers using DDU
  • playing on lowest graphic settings
  • used AMD Radeon Software and MSI Afterburner to try stock clock speeds and underclocked speeds
  • all temps are nominal
  • running game and steam as administrator
  • clearing shader cache
  • launching the game with directX 12
  • setting the game “high priority” in task mgr
  • clean boot of windows
  • adding Mordhau as an exception to windows defender and firewall
  • tried not running any gpu software
  • some other small windows settings that I can’t remember but didn’t help lol

About to just say f*ck it and start replacing hardware til the problem is solved because god damn it this game is worth it. Would be nice not to have to spend that money though. Been looking for a fix for months!!!

My build:
CPU - AMD 6350 6-core 3.9GHz

RAM - GSKILL Ripjaws X 32GB (8x4) DDR3 *i think
Hard drive - Samsung SSD 850 EVO
