It does feel a little strange.

variety > realism indeed but preferably not to the point of looking silly
rapier with kite shield looks silly from a historical standpoint but a tower shield like in Chivalry looks too fantasyesque on its own
idk maybe a Roman shield wouldn't look too out of place

as for the polehammer I'd like the following:

  • a blunt side: essentially warhammer with polearm range and probably some more dmg
  • alt mode functions like warhammer alt mode but can also dismount riders
  • a spike of course, for stabbing

Not sure about the length, could be anywhere between poleaxe and halberd probably.

Held block seems necessary if shields are to counter projectiles.

What I'm about to propose may be an incredibly stupid idea, but what if - at least during held block after parry window - hitting a held shield worked just like hitting a player, minus the damage.
So imagine you got a longsword or whatever and 2 bois come up: one with say a waraxe and on his left one with say mace & shield.
Shield boi is holding up his shield the entire time, while you riposte a WAxe strike from your left. Your riposte is going to hit shieldboi's shield first, but instead of stopping on his shield, your sword makes a sort of "clang" sound and continues the strike, maybe with some cosmetic hitstop.
Now shieldboi's turtling hasn't negatively impacted your ability in 1vX and he'll have to be more clever with raising his shield on time to make a difference. This wouldn't apply to blunt weapons which have hitstop obviously.

Now I have no idea if this would be balanced or not. It might even be at risk of just looking bad like a sword just phases through a shield while going "clang". Then again weapons pass through people all the time in this game.

That works in an RPG like Mount & Blade, not in Mordhau.

What do you mean "now"?
They've been varying degrees of clunky for a long ass time. Kickstun is a shit mechanic, balanced or not.
I'd rather see the block area reduced further and kickstun removed, so you can get around them with attack manipulation rather than a clunky stun mechanic.

As far as Eastern Europe is concerned, most of the Mordhau Armour Suggestions thread agrees with you, if not most of the forum.

The point of the mechanic is that if both weapons are in release they don't phase through eachother and result in a dumb hittrade.

Yeah those pics are exactly what I meant but I didn't feel like finding them again.

Pretty sure Seymour as in the Mordhau mascot is a bot.
If the "Seymour" you encountered started a votekick against you and approached you on Steam, it was a player using the name, most likely unaffiliated with the dev team.

What if we take the stats of the peasant's club, slap a more professional looking skin on it and give it to regular mercs?
Italian bar mace alternate skin and wa-la.

I could maybe get behind Roman stuff if it's from around the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Mostly because I like the early middle ages and the Germanic kings were rather keen on adapting Roman technology. But rather than the "iconic" legionaires, I'd rather see a focus on the Germanic, Pictish and Brittonic peoples that surrounded the dying Roman Empire.

Hoplites are too far back in time for my taste. Legionaires would be like the current Spanish kettle and hussar cuirass or the Landsknecht set: inching outside the medieval period but not clashing with its aesthetic. Hoplites would be more like adding grenadiers and jumping dick first into another time period.

As you know the Executioner is the only 2h sword without an alt mode.

War axe says hi

Edit: and literally the moment I hit the button to post I realize you specified "sword" and not just 2h weapon, my bad

should be VAC-banned again for this tbh

Peasant is the joke class, it's weak on purpose. It's like an intentional handicap for people who want to crank up their difficulty but add some flavour to their underpowered playstyle. It's pretty much made for styling on edgelords.

From what I've been told in my country, it was originally an insult, or at least a way to refer to us as weird. Over the generations we started referring to ourselves as gay and the word became a neutral term without homophobic meaning. Same thing happened with "queer" in the anglosphere but that word's almost never used in my country.

In a similar way people call eachother faggots a lot, but this happens so often outside the context of sexuality that it's starting to get disjoined from its original "flaming faggot" roots (which are quite horrifying tbh). It's starting to lose its homophobic meaning and becoming a general insult.

What I'm trying to say is: people who either use the term "gay" as an insult or feel insulted by it being used like that are the ones behind the curve imho.

Tbh this gametype is kinda niche and a drop in playerbase was to be expected.
And new patches taking a while to get here is pretty much a tradition at this point.

Anyone got some good UE4 and Blender tutorials to check out?
I got an idea but first I have to learn how to make a map function or assets or anything really.

For instance, Saxon Helmet is about 6-7th century, and the Rapier is 16th century. That is nearly 1,000 years difference, but 300 more is too far?

Gotta draw the line somewhere. Personally I'd draw it around 500 AD.
Also can someone post pic of ingame Saxon Helmet? I honestly haven't seen it. AFAIK the oldest gear we have currently is Scandinavian stuff from around 800 AD.

Disregarding the people who intentionally make ugly/meme mercs, Mordhau's aesthetic is very Eurocentric by design. Sure, the timeperiod is all over the place but it's all European for now, mostly Western and Central at that.
I suggest that rather than immediately delving into the Far East, we work outwards from what we have.
Eastern Europe is currently underrepresented.
Anatolia, the Middle East, North Africa and probably Persia are a logical next step.
Gear used by Turkic steppe people would definitely also work, Cumans and Pechenegs were literal mercenaries in Europe and it would blend well with oth the Islamic World and Eastern European aesthetic.

Also ahlspiess pls.
