My first attempt at painting miniatures for DnD.

Can me and my Mark of Finding Half Orc Samurai join your campaign?

A one-hand weapon of length X has a longer reach than a two-hand weapon of length X. That's because if I'm holding a one-hand weapon in my right hand, I turn to put my right foot forward, right shoulder forward, and so the right shoulder is closer to the target. With a two-hand weapon I can't do that (because if I did, my left hand couldn't reach the weapon).

Try it with a stick if that wasn't convincing.

technicaly you can use a Zweihänder one handed in real life its just not very effective and a waste of energy

To make it true to life. I know you guys aren't going for 100% realism, and that's a good thing for overall game play. But you guys do seem to try to respect certain physical aspects of weapons in terms of realism, such as simulated damage, reach, wind-up, etc. That's why I think the bastard sword needs it's stats changed to at least have a longer reach than longsword, since in real life it was slightly longer than longsword and considered to be an in-between of the long sword and great sword.

Someone's been hitting that D&D

Then people will just start using short weapons all the time because long weapons would be too much of a liability with this mechanic. Then we'll be here complaining that one handers are the meta and the whole cycle begins anew.

No game is ever going to have completely even usage of the entire arsenal, no matter how much you force it. Some items will always be favored by a majority of players. The only way to have a truly balanced game would be to have everyone fight in heavy armor with a long sword and remove everything else, but that'd get boring pretty fast, eh?

There's been a few videos on the topic of absolute balance in video games and how if you have it the game becomes infinitely more boring because it becomes so predictable you can call a game before it even begins. You can't have absolute balance and an interesting game with lots of variety, as the variety is in itself unbalanced.

Would unironically be hype for Indian weapons and armour tbh. Maybe even for the devs to expand their time frame scope to include antiquity period stuff for muh full RP.
Speaking of, can we have the 2 eye hole aventail and helm as shown in this pic please?varangian_guard - Copy.jpg

Shield suggestion:

Shields have 2 modes.

  1. Block melee mode. This is just a parry, albeit with a larger hit box (not nearly as large as the one it has now, but larger than 1h by itself) and maybe slightly longer active time. Recovery could even be longer for larger shields and shorter for something like the buckler.
  2. Block ranges mode. This is the held block as it is now, however against melee the area is much smaller and stam drain is much harsher (reasoning being you are absorbing all of the energy from that strike rather than deflecting it away like you should). Against ranged everything stays the same.

This way you have a good anti ranged tool while also having to engage in melee with the same timing rules as everyone else.

Guys come on, literally the best of both worlds here and we're having a hissy fit over dumb shit. All the other suggestions here have been "make shield bad" instead of addressing the issue of shields ignoring the timing aspect of combat. Let's use those Jimmy Neutron brains of ours and come up with a feasible solution that actually solves the core issue.

The shield could be held up all the time and only parries have to be timed. Would require some overly dramatic animations though so that you are not able to hide your parry.

That'd be cool. Maybe when you parry you wind up the shield and swipe, like a Dark Souls parry?

I don't see how this leads to RSI more than an extended combo window, but I do agree the way it is now is a bit silly. You think you'd want visual confirmation that you've struck someone before committing to a combo rather than queuing up like 5 attacks before you've even seen where the first one went.

Mordhau's playercount is at 4,629 right now just in the first 2 months,

Dude, Mordhau's fluctuating between over 10k to about 5k constantly (probably when NA or EU wakes up/goes to sleep) and considering the game this was heavily inspired by, its doing pretty well for itself.
Also trying to imply that the game is bleeding players because muh women is hilarious. All games have a massive first turnout, then lose a substantial amount until they finally normalise. The bleed of players over time is usually due to lack of new content. If anything, this game needs the mod tools out round about now along with the customization and maps they have.

Man this whole thread is just pointless. Can we go back to talking about a comp format that isn't just skirmish?

I'm sorry that you magical force field has a weakness.

It is a shield?
How is that magical?
TECHNICALLY, shields are infact WEAKER in game than in reality

The fact that the shield hitbox extends a foot or more past the actual model of the shield is what makes it magically retarded.

What a great idea to make a game based nearly entirely on timing and then add held block which completely negates all timing based mechanics. Truly galaxy brain game balancing right there.

You know that if they didn't add held block shields people would have had a riot cuz muh M&B muh Chiv reeee
