Thing I like: The core concept

Thing I dislike: Triternion's utter lack of caring. 4 months and US servers are still unplayable garbage...

i still really like the mechanics (mostly because i've never played a "competitive" first person slasher before) but yeah it's still a very very "indie" game and all the problems i had with it at the start turned out to be universally complained about by everyone else later instead of it going away with playtime (just kick shields lol!), which confirms my theory that the really really good beta players are just insanely stockholm syndromed.

the vast majority of alpha players thought shields were shit and have always been shit lmao what are you on about

what da fuck. why didn't they change it then. isn't that the point of an alpha. lol

Every big problem in this game you can think of now, was beaten to death in alpha - shields, animations, instas, frontline, horses, firepots, spawnblocking, you name it. They remained like that because of devs decisions to keep them in such state, not because nobody had noticed for year and a half in alpha.

huh. from my understanding there was a secret discord full of alpha testers that the devs exclusively listened to, but apparently they just Fuckin Ignored That Too

No, there's the private feedback channel on the discord where people the devs think know the game well enough can discuss things in a focused environment, but it's not like the devs actually just listened to them. The devs (or at least the original team) are all veterans of this little niche genre and are effectively on the same level as the comp players, and they do what they want.

Ah... so these devs have a history of not giving a fuck about their players. Cool.

i'm pretty new to this genre but anything with a high skill cap i see as a challenge to overcome — but if mordhau is the best this genre can do then that's insanely sad, cause i too can see the potential of these mechanics weighted with actual good game design. i still have hope for the mod support though, it'll be this games second wind when it comes to exploring the actual mechanics to see what game design best suits it

Mod tools aren't coming. The game will be abandoned long before we ever get an SDK.

maybe. i hope not though, i don't actually think the devs lost all their passion for this game once their massive paychecks rolled in. theres still a lot of their personal time sunk into this game project and you never really lose passion for that

Money changes people. Anyone in their position would just sell the company off to the first buyer and enjoy their early retirement.

Well I witnessed the same outcry about development speed, communication, etc on Rust Forums so I'm used to that.
But look at where Rust is now. It's far from dead. The dev told people to leave for a while and come back after a couple months if they want to see new things. Rust still has a solid playerbase.
I wouldn't call it a dead game. That just makes you sound like a narcissist who thinks the world evolves around you. Just because you quit playing doesn't mean everyone else did.

The US region is fucking dead because of their fried potato servers.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a roadmap. Also from the recent announcement and the edit they made about mod support it seems like it's very low on the priority list, but still planned.
They can't exactly focus all of their energy on it either though, because some of the devs are hired specifically for level design and the rest need to manage the other issues. I hope they hire more people to sort out mods soon though, as it would definitely have the biggest impact on the player base.

They already said they won't hire more people.

Don't be so dramatic. We had one content update and another one is coming up. I don't get the sudden hate train of the devs.

It's not a 'sudden hate train'. It's months of pent up frustration at the devs' utter lack of caring. That content update you speak of was universally hated by the community.

Stop trying to gaslight everyone and make it seem like everything's okay. Mordhau is going down the tubes fast and this "everything is fine" attitude will only accelerate that process.

Let's face it - the developers don't care what any of us want, and they never have to again. Mordhau's surprise success made them all millionaires overnight. Why on earth would they want to spend any of that money on a game that's already the overwhelming majority of money's it's ever going to make? If I were in their position, I'd say fuck Mordhau and enjoy early retirement.

If you're a US player, you've already seen how uncaring Triternion is. 4 months out from launch and US servers are still just as bad now as they were on day one. The fact that the US region is nearly dead and devoid of active servers speaks volumes. That tends to happen when people are forced to put up with packet loss, ghost parries and phantom hits if they want to play the game. You can only get killed by a spear that was clearly out of range so many times before you just want to play something else. 4 months and not even an acknowledgement that this is an issue. Hell, it would literally take a day to switch server providers, they just haven't done it. Sadly, any time I bring this issue up, I just get gaslighted by the poor sods on the Steam forums that have deluded themselves into believing everything is okay.

They released that absolute travesty of a map known as crossroads. They then 'reworked' it and actually made it worse. Since then, there's been no further updates. Crossroads is still unbalanced trash that causes the server to empty out any time it gets voted for, and the devs have known about this for months and done NOTHING.

When you guys set out to make a better Chivalry clone, did you also have to inherit Torn Banner's IDGAF attitude towards the game and its players? Why does every game in this genre end up this way?

Maybe one day some actual good developers will come along and make a FPSlasher. I refuse to use the Epic store for a multitude of reasons so Chivalry 2 basically doesn't exist in my mind. Maybe my grand kids will get the chance to play Bannerlord and experience an actual good FPSlasher.

Review rating on Steam is slipping down to a mixed rating. Player base has dropped off more than 90% since launch. No patch or hotfix in over a month.

This next update better be a goddamn home run.

Balance in frontline maps has gone from bad to irredeemably bad because all of the experienced players stack the advantaged team. 90% of the time when I matchmake for frontline, I get put into a losing team that has 5 fewer players than the enemy team and is losing by more than 500 tickets.

Playing one sided stomps all day is the antithesis of fun, no matter which side of the stomp you're on. We desperately need team balancing. Oh, and stop letting people pick teams. Just auto-assign teams at the start of a match while keeping parties together. This game's community will never grow if every newbie's first experience is getting spawn trapped and/or having to fight groups of 5 or more superstar players at any given time because the rest of their team couldn't care less.

Honestly, I think the Messer is in a good place right now, not to powerful, but good enough for five points. Its sometimes a little different to combat, but if you can time your parries right or chamber into a stab, its very beatable. I've killed loads of guys using the Messer. Its only been annoying when used with a shield, but I feel thats more the shields fault.

The messer's hit box is larger than the actual model. Also, the one handed animations are really messed up.

Horses have a massive hitbox that extends well past the model. I've had so many times where it looked like I was in the clear and timed a strike correctly, but I get clipped by the gigantic invisible hitbox and my swing gets interrupted. It's really friggin' annoying.

And even if you time a swing perfectly, you'll do maybe 37 damage and the rider will just chill on the outskirts of the map to regen their health and resume their rampage. Seriously, the way momentum damage works is just incredibly ass backwards. The rider gets his damage raised to the point he can instagib anybody if they so much as look at his weapon just by having his horse move at a slow trot. Meanwhile, you can smack a rider square in the chest while he's riding at a full gallop and it barely scratches him.

C'mon, guys, even Zelda got momentum based damage right.
(For context, in Breath of the Wild, you only get increased damage if your horse is running at a full gallop. Anything less and you just do normal damage.)

The game isn't dying. Its the fact that people that buy the game get turned off quickly because of its difficulty and high skillcap. People nowadays want instant gratification. When confronted with something that takes time and dedication to get good at they run away. This is made worse by the fact that there aren't any real "noob friendly" servers. The ones with "noob friendly" in the title are still populated with mostly high levels that only join those servers to shit on newbies. The new ranking system that is going to get implemented will allow newer players to actually compete against players their own level and gradually increase in skill rather than just get stomped to the ground all the time.

I thought ranked was only for 1v1.

Plus, let's be real, ranked will be full of smurf accounts and derankers.

I can't motivate myself to play when I know I'll just get stuck playing the same repetitive, boring, unbalanced frontline maps I've played dozens of times already.

I'd like to play and improve, but frontline bores me to tears. The mechanics can only hold the game up so much when the map and game mode design doesn't service them at all.

About the client-side chat filter thing...
Does that mean people get to choose if they want to see that stuff in chat?
Some are bothered with it, others not so much... So I'd prefer to have a choice whether I get to see it or not.
In my case, this doesn't bother me at all and I'd rather have an unfiltered chat on my side without censored words, regardless of what they may be...

If I start seeing curse words, threats, and racial slurs thrown my way, I know I'm doing something right.

I wish I had a full chat log from the last crossroads match I played. I played a dedicated horse killer with billhook and toolbox. The enemy team got so angry at me they literally had every single one of their cavalry trying to kill me all at once. They failed and I racked up a nice body count. My goodness, the outpouring of salt from that game chat was a sight to behold.

"Nerf all the things I don't know how to fight against."

  • You

I remember back in the heyday of Call of Duty 4, people would howl all day long about how this or that was OP. Then I'd make a shotgun load out (objectively the worst weapon in the game) and dominate an FFA match.

Stop complaining about how everything's OP and learn how to counter it.

Keep in mind, im only thinking like "kick range close"
At THAT range, as someone said, your best option would be to try to give yourself more distance. It wouldn't be too severe of a nerf, but it would make 2handers a little less "power without drawback"

Point cost balances weapons. Higher point cost = better weapon. If we're going to make one- and two-handers balanced in every fight, you'd have to chuck the whole point system in the bin and start over.

They obviously don't give a fuck that a large portion of people can't even play because of their potato servers. I'm one of them.
