@smug

You think a reporting system would take less effort than coding a simple word filter?

Not at all. I just think the simple word filter would be wasted effort, so why not have the effort go into something valuable?

Just how dumb do you think Trit's programmers are? They literally already have a working filter system it's called Motivational Mute.

I think they're smart.

Motivational Mute is a fun gimmick, but it's not a filter. It just replaces all chat messages from a given player. A filter would have to block something, and let something else through. Discriminating what to block and what to let through is a hard problem to solve. It's an impossible problem to solve, if you've got an adversary trying to get around the filter. Hence my statement that it would be wasted development effort.

Stereotyping racists isn't going to advance the original goal, which is convincing the moderators to moderate. The racist behavior on display here is all the evidence we need. No imaginary back story required.

@ZugZugNeverEnds:

at this point i am convinced there are people employed to spam these forums with these kinds of anti-toxicity threads in order to bait people like myself into getting aggressive

This is the most bizarre excuse for violating the forum rules that I've seen here. Banned for antisemitic hate speech, he blames imaginary paid outside agitators who made him do it.

Can you name some repercussions of word filters?

It would consume developer time, which we know is extremely limited, and would not solve the problem. Not a spectacular repercussion, just a big opportunity cost. Some we would value more, would be delayed.

Makes more sense to spend the effort on a better in-game reporting system, so the moderators get the information they need to do their jobs.

wow... so if you commit one genuine mistake too many you should be banned so that someones poor feefees won't potentially be harmed.

Learned nothing from your own temporary ban, I see.

@MrGhostTheFlyingFlail

Why can’t we just have a simple chat filter for racial slurs in place? Make the game streamer friendly. Anything else should be a players decision to censor. If there’s a feature to have motivational speech then something like a basic chat filter for racial slurs should be in place.

It wouldn't work, as has been pointed out, e.g., here and here.

Also, to be fair to the moderators, some of the worst offenders have been silent of late. It would appear they ARE doing something about it.

@Taki7o7

somebody who is familar with regular expressions should help there :)

Love to find someone who knows what regular expressions are, but even the fanciest regular expression wouldn't be helpful for this problem. I talked about this in another post that need not be repeated here.

You can not create equality without destroying and taking from me everything I care about, I will defend my nation and race intellectually as well as physically from threats to it by any means necessary.

I note that he has, like all fascists, talked himself into the idea that he is justified in violently defending himself against threats to white privilege.

@HalldeiMaul:

With Clyde I still think its a 50/50 tossup between someone being bored on the internet and writing this BS for shits and giggles or one of the infamous social effects coming into play where the boundary between reality and satire has become so wiped away by mindboggling developments that you can no longer tell whether people really think swordfighting games are about prowhite identity fanboyism or whether its actually just a joke.

You reject the simple, albeit horrifying explanation, that he means what he says?

@ Clyde

People want to play this game not to hit other people with imaginary sharp objects but for the identity, it appeals to. This is blatantly obvious for anyone if it was purely for gameplay with no connection to the white identity or history it wouldn't have been designed the way it is with the eurocentric design choices. I bought one thing, and will not let myself be defrauded as leftist mobs try to destroy it with their intersectional representation politics, I want the eurocentric game I bought to stay eurocentric and not become polluted and destroyed by your politics.

People do not make things that represent their identity, and history, like this if they don't have a clear love for themselves and their history, and people don't buy and support things like this just because they want to play a fun game with sharp sticks. They because of the identity of the game that comes from the people who made it and this identity comes from their ethnic identity and history, it's obvious and blatant.

Two things are blatantly obvious,

  • It is you who can't stop talking about politics, and
  • You are an unashamed white supremacist.

If there's anyone left who thinks an automated chat filter can screen out racist speech, @Clyde's posting history is the example that ends the argument. It's all polite words and filthy ideas.

More relevant to the original post, what is in the developers' minds is clearly NOT creating a place where nostalgic white supremacists can hang out. No amount of wishing will make it so.

This game is based on european identity and it should celebrate it, white european identity if you want it to be something else go play another game. there is nothing wrong with them making a game for white men.

Projecting your own white supremacist beliefs onto the developers, are we?

@VCliff

Is there any good reason why we shouldnt have a very basic chat filter?

It's an attempt to use a technical solution for a social problem. The behavior that's against the rules is not simply the uttering of particular words, rather, it's hateful messaging, and there are sadly almost infinite ways to express a hateful message without using a particular word. Even if the filter is clever enough to disallow a name like ZyklonBen (who is now banned), or to catch a simple declarative racist sentence like

i told you i know a jew when i see one.

by ZugZugNeverEnds (apparently also now banned), there's going to be some new and creative outrage you didn't think of in advance. By the time you've put the effort into creating a filter that really works, and doesn't create a lot of false positives, you may as well have just hired someone to moderate manually.

@Highlander

Just because I can't observe it doesn't mean it isn't happening, but it would be nice if we could. If it were up to me and if I were totally NOT busy fixing defects and running the business, I might set up a trouble ticket system, something like a bug tracker, that would let us see the complaints and the actions taken on a case by case basis. No need to dox the offenders.

Wait wtf are you a dev? Nice. Also after some thought I am in us central and the mods probably are in Europe or other places. But I’ve seen the lack of moderating be a pretty universal complaint so it’s not just my region I believe. Maybe just something as simple as a little toggle in setting that converts all super bad racial slurs to “ wow you guys are all playing great, good luck teammates! :D “ would be a huge improvement and completely take away my ability to bitch about toxicity, while at the same time not getting criticized for censorship.

No no. IF this were my system I would be busy as hell. It's not, and I'm not part of the team. Sorry if I made that less than clear. Though I do have long experience in software development and know something of what the Mordhau devs are facing.

Yea I have never seen any frontlines admins ever take any action throughout my playtime ( I’m level 40 and pretty much exclusively play frontlines )....

Huh I never knew we had admins on frontlines servers, they must not exercise their power frequently and the n word drops so frequent they aren’t effective at all really.

Well, they need proof before they'll act.

  • Scoreboard screenshot so we know it was an official server,
  • Screenshot of playerlist output so we know the Steam ID,
  • AND whatever filth was said in chat.
    I can't speak to how often they act on complaints by banning players---there's no feedback---but hearing some player drop the N bomb is a daily occurrence for me as well.

Might be cool to have a certain minimum rate of fire on the ballista, slower than we have now, and then increase the rate of fire IF there are other teammates helping to man the ballista. It would reward cooperation.
