Don't ruin it by adjusting your vision of this game to certain modern standards.

Why not just come out and say white men only, instead of resorting to a clumsy dog whistle like this? We've all heard this argument before: women and people of color are going to make you sad because realism demands that only medieval european white males fight each other with lutes and frying pans and carrots. When you say it that way, of course it sounds like bullshit because it is.

It isn't broken, it's in beta, and it was announced as such.

This. If you want to wait until the product is finished, wait. We don't get to complain that it's still got defects when it's in beta.

I didn't say it was a big data set. :) Just that I've played since the patch, and haven't observed what you are saying is the norm. Either I'm very lucky or the norm has changed. The latter seems more likely.

In particular I played a match on Mountain Peak in which the teams stayed within 20 points of each other the whole game.

And if you haven't played on the new Crossroads you should do yourself a favor and try it, rather than just listening to second hand rumors. It's fundamentally different.

I've been playing Frontline on various maps since the patch. Haven't seen ANY one-sided stomps.

I'm really glad to see the patch. The changes to Crossroads are especially fun.

@esturias

And I thought that this thread originally was about bad moderation...

It still is. @SWSeriousMike and @CocyxTheGaySkeleton, bless their hearts, are debating tolerance with a Nazi sympathizer who still isn't banned despite being reported for holocaust denial to this forum. @Maci has chimed in with an explicitly racist graphic to just underline that he won't be banned for that, either.

"Messer" is German for knife. People began carrying messers where the carrying of a sword in city limits was outlawed. It is the answer to the question, How long can a knife be before we call it a sword?

the reason why moderating intentions is so hard is BECAUSE we're dumbing down offensive language by just avoiding it entirely, which ironically gives the alt right a free range of post-irony to use at their disposal cause ppl are struggling to parse that shit. sure wonder why

Alt right racists have free rein to plainly say racist and Nazi shit in this forum and get away with it, no irony required at all. I know you know there are plenty of examples.

When we wanted better moderation, we meant better - not worse. I let my alter ego Captain Obvious take over again: The lack of transparency is hurting the community. Up to this day we still have no idea what is allowed and what is not.

Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Everyone is aware that racism is allowed, antisemitism is allowed, "gay" as an insult is allowed, indeed, spouting straight up Nazi propaganda is allowed---as evidenced by the fact that the people who do those things aren't banned, the rules notwithstanding.

This shouldn't be a burden on the player who was TK'd, but it is because basic information like "X team killed Y" is not logged on the server side. That's a designed-in problem.

Most of the information you currently need to collect, should be in server logs. I should be able to press a button in game and say, please open a ticket on player X for this reason. Admins should be able to investigate your complaint with just the name of the server and the time.

The lute detracts from the game, IMO. I wouldn't object if volunteer devs worked on a lute mod, but I hope "add features to the lute" isn't anywhere in the top 20 dev priorities.

Yes. You contact the admins on the Discord server (see the official rules thread), and show them a video of the griefing. You'll need to show the scoreboard, to prove it's an official server.

If there were logs to check, of course, this would be easier for you. There are none.

The tutorial is a good overview. But after the tutorial, it would be nice to have a program that implements a bunch of drills. As in a real fencing class, you'd have a partner who feeds you a particular attack so you can practice a particular response over and over.

So based on that screenshot,

  • You're connected to an official server in Sydney,
  • Using the ping utility (presumably 103.126.137.194 is Umbriel 13), you see a round trip to for ICMP packets of 74 ms,
  • "Ping" in the game, which is the round trip time for UDP packets plus processing time by the server, is 88 ms.

So your client request takes 36 ms to arrive at the server, is getting handled by the server in 14 ms, and takes another 36 ms to get back to you. And you'd like us to be outraged at the server?

So I'm really curious why very obvious offenders aren't banned.

On the evidence, it's just not a priority for the company.

Perhaps they are banning more griefers than they seem to be. There's no public list of banned players, and no public trouble-ticket system for following up on a report, so we cannot know if our impression is fair.

In the forums, we now have a welcome new feature that shows in the profile whether a user is suspended. So now, it's completely fair to say that forum moderation is very, very lenient, because you can report a user for saying something against the rules, and see them not-at-all-suspended for it. But there's still no direct response to reports, so we can only guess about whether a particular report was ignored.

Well, if a holocaust denier, a guy who thinks African immigrants are an existential threat, and a guy whose avatar is literally a picture of Mussolini all say we should only have white characters in this game, that's totally not racist.
