Personally I burnt my self out on the game pooring hundreds of hours into a constantly developing world, well worth it but I sometimes give it a re-download, play with friends and dont touch it again for a month.

The difference here is that Rust's all time low took about 11 months, nearly a whole year after launch. Mordhau's decent was being seen in like 2.5 months. Thats what we call a not so pro gamer move.

They're different games though. A survival shooter is inherently going to be more popular than a medieval melee game.

UE4 might not be perfect, but I don't know any other engines with the capabilities and support it has.

@OP My take on this is that if in about 6 - 8 months we don't have a well balanced game and the devs still are fixing issues rather than focusing on content then it's a problem. Take Rust for example, a pretty decent game that's quite popular at the moment. It had the exact same issue Mordhau is having steamcharts wise at the beginning, but now it's a thriving game. Pubg when it launched mainly just fixed issues and then in the last year they've been releasing some awesome updates.

If in the first year things go wrong for Mordhau, it isn't that abnormal.

This would be a quick fix but I don't think it's a long term solution to the problem. I agree though it would really useful and so many things could be done to help incentivise server owners.
I had a go at using cheatengine on the server a while back and was able to change some basic stuff like slomo and read kills/deaths for certain player slots. Finding the null pointer for a UE4 game is probably very difficult though and I was well out of my depth. Probably much easier than reverse engineering the network requests though.

I don't think removing official matchmaking is a good solution, but matchmaking for community servers would definitely help spread the player base. I made a topic proposing this

Tldr; I don't think community match making will ever be in their scope, but I would happily make an application to do this. Without a pinned topic or a link in game it would just become another dead community project and I'm not going to take that chance.
With the addition of community maps now being a thing though, a community matchmaking app with auto map downloading could definitely be a hit.

Also if you want to favourite servers, I have a web based server browser that can do this.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a roadmap. Also from the recent announcement and the edit they made about mod support it seems like it's very low on the priority list, but still planned.
They can't exactly focus all of their energy on it either though, because some of the devs are hired specifically for level design and the rest need to manage the other issues. I hope they hire more people to sort out mods soon though, as it would definitely have the biggest impact on the player base.

That looked like your router config. Disable Windows firewall or allow it through ip tables on Linux.
Id advise against hosting it yourself though. For $5 you can host a 24 slot server on a vps.

It's more productive to release larger updates so I can understand why they do it with such a small team. Managing different development branches, dealing with release issues and handling PR would all require a lot more work. Also we saw what happened when crossroads got released so I'm sure they want to nail down everything before releasing.
I agree though, we need updates more often. I hardly play Mordhau anymore and would like to see it being given some more love.
