That's not quality, that is just hard to counter cheesy tactics. It's not that they are better at reading people or better at their strikes or moves. They use weird stuff that catches unaware players because it's not really clear how to counter some of that. Imagine playing starcraft 2 and encountering only cannon rushes and worker rushes at higher ranks.

I went up from silver to platinum in ranked duels and I feel that with higher ranks fights are becoming more and more annoying. Best experience for me was in lower gold, because duels were fun and fair. In platinum most of the opponents are using some kind of cheesy or annoying to deal with loadouts and strats. Unreadable animation abusers, spinners, half naked guys with dodge and zwei, rapier users, mauls, flesh wounds. All of this is a part of the game and they have right to use it, but it doesn't feel interesting to fight against some of that bullshit all the time.
In lower ranks everything is readable, simple and fun. I wonder if ranks after plat are even worse.

If you listen to everything that people are complaining about there won't be many weapons left. Rapier op, maul op, horses op, battle axe op, war axe op, halberd op, shields op, short spear op, long spear op, brawler fists op, bloodlust op, flesh wound op, javelin op, catapult op, sledghammer op, cleaver op. It's a job of the devs to make weapons balanced, not ours.

This image by Den is an elegantly simple explanation of why drags are both possible and inevitable in a system without lock-on. Looking down to hasten an overhead is the same kind of swing manipulation, only vertical rather than horizontal.

Well you can lower the damage if attack connected not in the middle part of the swing. If you hit too fast or too late in your swing you can lose damage.

I see a lot of complains about horses. We have huntsman perk that increases damage to archers, and wrecker perk for buildings. Maybe we can also have a perk that increases damage against horses or horsemen (maybe it should work only with ranged and throwables or only with melee)? Or a perk that stops you from flinching or taking damage when horse bumps into you?

I am not sure what a jab is, but there is a different fist attack if you press Thrust attack button

You can easily riposte with a shield if you hold RMB and spam LMB when getting attacked.
