Pavise should cost so much that it's at the expense of medium (I was going to say heavier but someone is going to assume I mean plate) armor if it ever makes its way into the game. Perhaps even the weapons too like Jax said. That would make a more interesting trade-off: do you want to be potentially stronger in counter-archer situations, or do you want to have more survivability in melee?

Well, as far as I can tell armor is outside the inventory point system - you can equip whatever armor you want, it just affects your movement speed. I assume the way they'll handle ranged with armor is making ranged perks restricting you to a certain armor class. So I'm not really sure how you'd have to 'choose' between a pavise or medium armor. I could be wrong, though.

shoot spartan in the head with your pistol, he lives

spartan throws a spear at your leg, you die

gg

The game did make me realize I love chucking all my shit at the enemy and then running at them with my fists. Didn't make me any better at it, though.

ARQUEBUS / MATCHLOCK MUSKET
Arquebus.jpg

  • Cost: 1
  • Use: Humiliation, psychological warfare/intimidation
  • Strike Damage: Blunt damage, slightly lower than quarterstaff
  • Thrust Damage: Blunt damage, quite low
  • Strike Speed: Average
  • Thrust Speed: Pretty fast
  • Alternate Fire: Thrown, slightly more damage than a stone

I fixed it.

I'm all for more 'joke' weapons, though personally I hope all of them deal at least 1 HP of damage (I don't know what 'negligible' damage means, unless it just boils down to 'hitstun but no flinch'). That's plenty of time for two guys to practice sparring without murdering each other. I'm going to have a lot of fun with the improvised weapons - I hope the perk system comes with some reliable way to obtain them (which I guess wouldn't make them 'improvised' per se but still).

As for ranged weapons, I like the idea of a sling as a lower-tier one. The alternate fire (if ranged weapons even have those) could be to throw a rock by hand instead, which would have a faster rate of fire but weaker projectiles. Alternatively, there could be a bag of stones that serves a similar purpose.

Also, pressing alternate fire when the handcannon is unlit (again, assuming ranged weapons even have alt fire) should throw it or wield it as a melee weapon, since without ammu it's effectively a big unwieldy club, yeah?

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Yeah, I'm hoping that's not something that was dropped at some point - I was looking forward to being able to make certain niche loadouts more viable.

I haven't ever actually seen any feminist complain about females being included in games. Usually it's those complaining about feminism who do that, and If anything, I usually see people complain about the lack of female representation in media. But I guess if their inclusion makes people happy by proxy of the tears of some vague, hypothetical group of people that probably doesn't exist or care, by all means ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i don't think they are going to allow you to use shields with fists, that would be encouraging people to be captain america. I know it sounds silly but it will probably happen like in chivalry where you can't use the shield if not paired with another weapon.

Sounds awesome to me. There are already joke loadouts possible in the game, that one doesn't sound particularly outlandish compared to, say, swinging a lute around.

Any chance of seeing chakrams? Small cut damage swinging a disk or toss it with a curve to strike a ranged hit?

No, I'd hazard a guess that a bullshit mall ninja weapon from India won't make its way into a medieval fighting game.

Was just asking, no need to flip a sword upside down and hit me with it.

What about just a bag of rocks, low damage, decent amount of stones to throw and just annoy someone with the dink when it hits?

Well, if there's a sling, that's basically what that'd be. Maybe its alternate fire would be to throw rocks by hand (unless all ranged weapons just aim as their alternate fire).

Fists work exactly the same as regular weapons in terms of mechanics except that you cannot block regular weapons, only other fists, and you can hold the block.

Alright, awesome! It sounds like fist fighting could theoretically be somewhat viable (or at least, not a joke) if you have a shield equipped with them, assuming that falls under "works the same as regular weapons." I look forward to being cut down as I try to punch people to death.

I'll probably base my character(s) on DnD characters, etc., that I've made in the past, allowing for a degree of flexibility.

I assume that the secondary mode of fists is holstered, as in no weapons.
Stabs are jabs.
Their damage is the same as any other (blunt) weapon except less.

According to marox in a different thread: "There is a neutral stance, we just don't switch to it automatically anymore on disarms and switch to fists instead, which is basically a 'weapon'. You can switch to it manually though with 0."

There are a few topics on fists, but they seem rather outdated, so I thought I'd ask a few questions about how fists work in Mordhau. The only thing I know right now is that 1. they can't block, parry, etc. non-fist weapons, and 2. they look satisfying as hell to use.

Are they as fluid/maneuverable as other weapons? I have no idea if the fists would even work with the same 240 angles or however many as the other weapons. Swinging from low to high and sending a guy flying by uppercutting him in the chin sounds fun.

Do they have a 'stab' attack? A straight jab versus left/right hooks for the regular fire, for example?

Do fists have an alternate mode of attack? A different fighting stance, perhaps? Or does the button you press just determine which arm you swing with?

What happens if you have no weapon but you pick up a shield? Can you use a shield in one hand and swing with your other? If so, that would presumably allow a way to fist fight and still be able to parry weapons. Or that could be a way to shield bash, by swinging with the fist holding the shield.

Fists presumably deal bludgeoning damage. How do they interact with armor, then? I assume they're not more effective against plate armor than padded armor, for example.

I'd add flintlock pistols and muskets to the game...But they'd have no ammo, so primary fire is to swing them and alternate fire is to throw them.

The ability to remove my helmet and beat people to death with it.

A mod that aesthetically replaces bows with the player just winding back and throwing the arrow by hand.

A mode where kicking reflects projectiles and punches knock people's heads off and automatically disarm.

In this type of game, however, I tend to go for stupid satisfying strategies that get me killed. In Deadliest Warriors, for example, my strategy as Viking was 1. Throw my sword, 2. throw my shield, 3. throw my other sword, 4. punch 'em.

The King of shit in DW was Arquebus + Molotov with yarr jarr.

Oh, when I played pirate my goal was to finish people off by throwing the flintlock at them. I managed two kills that way.

So, wait, if I'm understanding the 'problem' correctly, there are those for whom hearing female death cries would break the immersion?

"This game was really realistic and made me feel like I was on an actual battlefield...But then my opponent's voice was higher pitched when I killed them and that just completely killed the illusion. I was fine with the shirtless dude running around throwing apples at people, and the guy trying to kill my horse by swinging a lute at it, but a female? On the battlefield? That's just fucking silly."

If it's three 'hands' then I'd go with a longsword and mace for my 'serious' loadout. I'd probably add a shield if there was more room, and maybe a throwing knife or firepot or something.

In this type of game, however, I tend to go for stupid satisfying strategies that get me killed. In Deadliest Warriors, for example, my strategy as Viking was 1. Throw my sword, 2. throw my shield, 3. throw my other sword, 4. punch 'em. So in this game when I feel like dicking around (which will prolly be most of the time), it'll be more like...

Equip a mace, a short sword, and some other small throwable weapon (axe? spear?). Chuck all of them at the enemy (which are probably easily deflected). Then either run at them with my fists and die or search for environmental weapons and die.
