Er, sorry, clarification: (As far as I can tell) you can lunge mid-sprint. What I was trying to say is that you can't lunge while not pressing Forward (W) at all (as in standing still), and you can't lunge if you're not-pressing-W, start an attack, and wait too long before you start pressing W (which can be walking or sprinting). The point where you have to start pressing W in order to get a lunge is surprisingly (imo) early in the attack.

I'm pretty sure the only unique quality of the ripostes is being unflinchable.

Huh, I thought that was removed, but I really have no idea (I'm not an Alpha player).

We really need an official, up-to-date list of advanced mechanics like these.

someone may be able to give a more comprehensive answer than this, but here's what I've observed:

  1. Sprinting while lunging goes a little further
  2. Lunging happens if you're walking or sprinting forwards while attacking
  3. You have to be walking pretty early on the attack for it to turn into a lunge. Starting your attack and then starting to walk too late doesn't seem to get a lunge.

Regarding the people who can lunge behind you and turn and stab you, are you sure they're not using Dodge (the perk)? I could imagine that they're just dodging to the side while stabbing (you can dodge freely mid-attack as far as I can tell).

edit: It's also kinda fun to combine dodge with lunge, dodging to the side and then lunging forward as a way of punishing a long stab with your own short weapon. Hard to consistent dodge stabs tho. Still working on that skill. Dodging stabs with just footwork or matrixing is probably something I should be working on too.. but with Combo Feint To Parry being what it is, whiff-punishing probably isn't that rewarding against good players (it doesn't guarantee a hit), and it's risky (you're risking a hit by trying to dodge without blocking)

Newbie here; did CFTP ever get nerfed (did whiff punishment ever get meatier) or is a whiff punish on a smart player still just a stamina advantage and mix-up opportunity (initiative)?

I've been trying dodge because I like the idea of dodging attacks but my footwork isn't uh good enough to cause a rapier stab to miss on its own. Since Dodge itself eats 10 of your own stamina, I guess it's not much of a Stamina advantage if you cause a whiff with Dodge. I've gotten a few kills with swinging while dodging but I wonder if the opponent's could've CFTP'd that if they'd known how to.

I think I've also CFTP'd inadvertently (didn't know it existed) in chaotic teamfight contexts, just swinging wildly and then starting a swing, going "oh shit", and parrying. I guess if CFTP exists then I should be starting combo swings on pretty much every opportunity (real hits or whiffs, but not on block).

Here's some people on Reddit getting offended by a wide dragged swing.

I think those comments have actually gotten a greater number of upvotes and downvotes than you can tell from their score, because the score's changed a bit as I've checked back on it. I think dragging's a bit controversial on the subreddit. I really need to get off the subreddit. It's irritating me.

I really like the idea of team-colored arm bands.

I also think the crosshair should change color when aimed at an enemy (and this should be usable at any range instead of only at the short range that name identification is possible).

Mainly I just want to be able to play with everyone using their own customized colors, but with ally/enemy identification still being easy. I really want that. That's the goal.

It's because you have a bow equipped and most archers have the Huntsman perk.

The huntsman perk gives you significantly increased damage when attacking the head or chest of an enemy-with-a-quiver, using a bow, crossbow, or throwing weapon. An "enemy-with-a-quiver" is, of course, any enemy who has a bow in their loadout (but not an enemy who randomly happened to pick up a bow off the ground.)

I guess it at least doubles the damage.

Er, press R. The same way you switch weapon modes for any weapon.

Here's a very silly spin-heavy kill I got.
