Now those are solid reasonable first impressions. I can't really answer all your questions 'cause I'm not a dev, but for Ballistas? Those are heavy caliber arrows, son, with a heavy caliber firing mechanism. Unless your shield is made of valyerian steel, the bolts will hurt you.

I think he means the Toolbox "Mounted Crossbow" that comes up in the killfeed as a Ballista.

I'll have to revisit it. Found the alt mode awkward, have to get some more play time with it.

It is very underwhelming for it's cost. Have to agree.

Unfortunately the developers want a more "authentic" medieval experience so I doubt we'll see this in the future.

I personally would love weapons and armour of Roman influence.

We'll have to wait and see, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

The real problem in my opinion is the huntsman perk. If you want to be able to go up close you are forced to use throwing weapons. I don't think you really need increased projectile speed - you just need more valid targets and more freedom of movement.
But I'm not maining archer - so I could be completely off.

I agree completely, I don't understand the role of the recurve, it's a close range bow with a high rate of fire. But an enemy archer will destroy you with the huntsman perk if he's just spamming into the melee blob and a throwing weapon will deal far more damage without the risk.

I would agree that the projectile speed, for the longbow particularly, is too slow and turn every shot into pot luck beyond point blank range. Which is a shame as good aim and judgement should be rewarded, and random shots punished. I feel with the current low speed of the projectiles, just firing shots into a group is far more efficient than placing them carefully as the time for your arrow to hit the target is too long.

Increasing the speed would help accuracy, and be more rewarding for hitting longer shots, as it'll no longer just be a case of luck and discourage random shots into blobs of players (team damage would be greatly reduced).

I'd also like to see different arrow heads allow archers to deal increased damage (more efficiently that is) so long as they have chosen the correct targets. (Much like using the maul vs using a longsword).

I completely understand that ranged is not the focus for the game, but I think increasing the projectile speed wouldn't impact the melee as is but would greatly improve ranged gameplay increasing the skill cap and decision making during the fight.

A little background...

I've played 34 hours of chiv, wasn't a huge fan. The combat was mediocre and not engaging, chopping off heads was fun but nothing to write home about.

Played nearly 800 hours of For Honor (participated in the alpha and beta), been in Diamond for every season I've played (since ranked existed). I was pretty sweaty at times. Love the game to bits, despite its flaws.

Mordhau : Played nearly 6 hours so far, the combat has more depth than chiv and feels more rewarding. It's a bit slow but other than that feels good. The speed will undoubtedly rise when I start chambering strikes consistently.
Chambering stabs seems far too easy, I don't really have to think about it. Having Feints and Soft Feints ( morphs) is great, and chambering strikes is rewarding especially when out numbered.

Customisation is fantastic!

The game modes are diverse enough, I really don't like that you can't host games for just you and your friends (without paying for a server), but joining empty servers works for now. Not played BR as I'm just not a fan of the gamemode.
It would be nice when you matchmake/join a server that it would drag your party with you, but that's a minor issue.

The reward bug is a pain, but I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

All in all very impressed and excited to see how it develops.
