These are a collection of hotfixes, not a patch. Mostly "magic number" changes. But whatever helps you sleep at night...

It’s been that way with most good games of this genre, (m&b/wotr/chiv come to mind.). TL:DR - skill cap is high and pushes impatient/mediocre players away. Maybe add a mode that’s only available to players of lower ranks, I dunno 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's why you implement ranked matchmaking before you release your game. And not just for duels...

The devs started this project based on improving the flaws of Chivalry but completely ignored this issue. Now they have a 4-5k daily playerbase.

You’re taking firebombs outside the context of toolbox items. I never said firebombs weren’t generally a problem.

they are the direct counter to toolboxes, as the OP just explained.
1 firebomb can destroy a whole cluster of buildings, and the only way to stop that is by throwing smoke bombs at it.

One smoke bomb can cover a lot of ground and for a decent amount of time. If I'm out of smokes and the toolbox is on cool down, i just repair in the flames with a heavy handaxe because i have the repair and fireproof perks.

I can see why firebombs would be frustrating without these three things, but if you're not using them and still worrying about your buildables staying up, you're not playing engineer correctly.

Fire is a fair counter to buildables, but it can be mitigated pretty well with a proper loadout.

I couldn't agree more. The devs had zero foresight in releasing without ranked matchmaking for all game modes.

With 60k players, you can do that and watch the popularity rise from competitive twitch streamers and players not quitting from getting evenly skill matched games. At this point, though, there may be too few players remaining to introduce that kind of a system without long wait times or skill-matching that doesn't work.

It's sad because this game could have been huge, and the devs had a template handed to them on a platter in Chivalry for what to emulate and what needed improvement. Clearly, the "level 0-15" servers did not even start to fill the void that was ranked play in Chiv. Everyone agreed time-based ranks were meaningless, and no one important streamed the game more than a few times because it was just a meme game to them. The same could be said here, and it sucks cause the combat is a lot better.

it was one of their kickstarter stretch goals for adding ranked

"We will add a ranked mode with 1v1, 3v3 and 5v5 modes where players can climb up the competitive ladderr" or something to that effect

They also have an SDK in the kickstarter goals, but that doesn't mean we'll see one in 2019.

You're absolutely right. Chances are however, the engineer is already busy dueling some guy who caught him red handed.

A most wise troll will also use smoke to give himself cover while he quickly erects his big, beautiful wall.
