Maybe have two handed weapons rested on the shoulder using one hand and have the other hand do a 'come hither' motion? I can't really think of how you could flourish a 2 handed weapon but I'm not very well versed in the art of intimidation.

Was just thinking about infinite stamina yesterday while playing against a few bots trying to train reaction speed. I think either unlimited stamina or having bots pick their weapons back up would definitely help.

I apologize for calling you names. My point still stands though: Mordhau is in an early alpha version. It hasn't even been out for a month. It's an incredibly well made alpha by today's standards for sure, but still not nearly a finished game. As such very few things are set in stone.

I am agree with you.
I really like the game, but it's what I said before: Every time I duel everyone makes feints and morphs, so much as there is the wonderful characteristic of the sword clash is very unlikely to see it, and it is a shame because it is beautiful.

The developers have made it pretty clear over posts and I even believe on the title screen of the game that the Alpha is on no way meant to be used to show the full potential of the game nor for balancing it. There is an EXTREMELY solid chance that during the Beta all the qualms that people have with the combat that are widespread among the community will be resolved, such as the certain lack of clashes. Many people, mostly in the games chat itself, have shown the desire for clash rate to rise along with fixing of parry windows and slightly easier morphs.

Think of the Alpha as a tech demo that is being constantly changed with experimental features. Since Alpha release we have already had some pretty major changes, off the top of my head being the change from the old direction-then-click style to the more M&B focused combat style, a flat health recovery upon killing an enemy and constant changes of how damage works with certain armours and parts of the body.

All I can really say is wait. If you really don't like it right now and somehow these small gripes are putting you off enjoying the game, then play the games you enjoy and come back in the Beta to see what's what.

As much as I believe I'm the only one in the whole alpha like this, I've been playing 6 hours each day and haven't improved for shit, I am still a godawful player. If more of me exists, then no, chances are new players are gonna have a good laugh and those chiv veterans will still have blade fodder.

I've had some great times playing even though I'm utter shite, sometimes just learning things through fights with massively experienced and skillful players and other times just pissing about. It can definitely be fun while not winning.

Dont shit on yourself like that lol. This game aint easy which I love. Keep playing, practising, and when u fall, fall foreward.

Thanks for the inspiration, but I think this is more of a long set problem for me when playing games. I've tried with many, many games to 'git gud' but I think I just lack the ability to do so. Luckily, I can still enjoy the game while not winning, I just avoid LTS so not to let anyone down.

  • Parries are too wide; it is way too hard to get around them with sidestabs and such which greatly limits your options.

As someone who is a casual player to this games, I massively agree with this.

I too am a casual player, but I'm not sure of my stance on this entirely. While parries do feel a little all-encompassing at times when you pull off a massive swing and hear the depressing ding of a parry, I also believe it's my own fault that I cannot use the rest of the game's mechanics to get around parries. I'd say that my best skill in the game is defending - I can make a fight drag on and on but as soon as I throw a swing into my defense I ultimately have my guard broken and that is through not fault but my own.

Maybe alter the kick. I've only ever kicked somebody once in a fight and still lost, it feels extremely limited and slightly useless right now as something that should potentially change a fight.

Very helpful, thank you!

May try and get a dueling only server going somehow, we'll see.

I'll give a quick first impression list from a few hours of gameplay as a complete rookie to melee games:

  • Performance will be a bit wonky for those will low end graphics cards. If you're using a graphics card like mine which is many years old but can still run a few good looking modern games at reasonably high FPS (Warframe, Titanfall 2, Insurgency) then I'm afraid this isn't gonna be one of them. Lowest graphics options, resolution at 1600x900 and downscale at 65 and online play will still only really reach 45 fps max. Obvious fix is buy a new graphics card, but it's a bummer when so many other games will run fine.

  • Combat feels very fluid. When you get the timing down, morphing swings into stabs, changing weapon stance and changing swing direction all seem to become second nature. You quickly forget that you're trying to do these things and instead you just ARE doing them. Very commendable.

  • Servers are obviously a bit of a mosh. Dislike how there aren't servers only hosting one gamemode but that's quality of life - irrelevant right now. Everyone seems to be very experienced at the game already which is a little disheartening when you realise you have 2 kills and 30 odd deaths but hey, it happens.

  • Weapons feel extremely varied and satisfying. Feedback from weapons is tangible and allows you to really get into a fight when you're fighting. No one weapon seems to stand out so far as a supreme choice, although the zweihander is extremely popular.

  • The very few fair fights I had felt extremely well paced. They did not last too long, they were exciting and by the end I felt mentally worked as I read incoming attacks and adjusted appropriately. The speed of the fights are about right, though fist fights are far too sluggish and somewhat lack feedback. Group fight and fighting multiple people may as well be impossible though if you aren't all walking in a circle waiting for a quick stab.

  • Some silly yet memorable things have happened, obviously boasting a wonderful community. We crouched in a circle and hugged using the Come At Me out which I had a good laugh at.

  • Most frustrations come from small bugs that are to be expected of the alpha. Some UI elements simply stop working, scoreboards blur, character creation locks up every now and then and my least favourite thing is that the first taunt of every life freezes your character in place until you've chosen it, and even then leaves the menu frozen in the top right corner and won't go away.

That's about it for now. Can't comment on graphics as obviously it looks like a wobbling pile of clay when I'm on a server but I guess it works. All these things aside, it's extremely enjoyable even if I spend longer as a rolling head than a glorious champion.

Update: I have resolved the fps issue for the most part - I was not aware that shadows could be completely disabled instead of just set to low and it seems they were the main culprit as fps is now at a stable 60 when playing online for the most part. For anyone else with framerate issues, I recommend disabling shadows, setting your resolution to one step down from your usual and lowering downscale to around 75 or 70.

Can sameone help me? For me its a bit irritated because i bag the game on kickstarter for 25 Dollars. So did i get Alpah access as well?

The $25 tier was for the game upon full release. I believe the alpha+beta+release tier was $60.

Losing is fun tbh. I've played a lot of Planetside 2, and the amount you die in that game is more than any other fps game I have played. So I've just learned to wait the respawn timer out and try again.

Losing can definitely be fun. Titanfall 2 was fun to me online due to the amazing skills of the professional players racing around at max pace and absolutely ruining what you thought was a great kill streak. The problem can be in some games that you can feel that trying is pointless if somebody is doing something so precise and in-depth that you feel you could never counter it. Planetside 2, from my personal experience, allowed you to counter skill with teams of people working together - outnumber the opponent if you can't outskill. Titanfall 2 gives everyone the same fragility - no matter how fast you're moving or how well you know the game, a well timed sniper shot, grenade or shotgun blast will still end you.

It will be interesting to see how or if Mordhau replicates this sensation.

So they wont launch early access? No hype then, pointless ;(

They did launch early access but you either didn't support during the Kickstarter or didn't know about it and didn't support because of that. Hopefully they sell some more keys before the end of the year though.

I don't think at this point it is even legal for them to do so due to Steam ToS. Pretty sure that's what got the forum store shut down, as you can't host a game on Steam in a pre-release state while not selling keys for said game on Steam. There was close to a quarter of a year to buy into Alpha and Beta, I don't think many excuses can be made at this point aside from only finding out about the game after both sales ended, and even then all that can really be said is 'Tough luck'.

All competitive games can be played casually

Not LoL and DotA 2... you need someone to teach you and it'll still take hours just to understand how they work, and after that you'll be met with toxicity and salt.

It's very easy to play LoL casually...

It's a matter of taste and opinion. You may think it is easy to play casually but when I tried it myself (not a big fan of MOBAs in the first place) I found it challenging to have a good time around the nuances of gameplay and stress that your team can place on you. Bare in mind that 'casual' does not have the same definition to everyone - some may use it to explain playing a game purely to pass time and have fun with no stress or requirement to play seriously, while others may define it as playing competitive games on a non-competitive gamemode.

To answer the main question though, yes, you can play the game casually. I HIGHLY doubt there will be anything stopping you from just logging on to a server and pissing about with a sword if you really wanted too, but I guess you'll have to accept that sometimes even the professionals want to do that and you may get slaughtered.

I wish they had made it 10AM uk time rather than 7PM because that means I can only play for a few hours

Wouldn't be fair on the US lot to release it at 4-5AM for them. Gotta keep it fair for everyone. Plus it's 6PM GMT, not 7, so maybe you have an hour longer than you thought.

Free time before uni for another 2 weeks. Probably will only watch Jax play tomorrow instead of playing myself though - I've never had good experiences on games on first day of release before so playing it safe.

Just fight bots imho. And watch Jax at the same time

That is actually a very good suggestion, granted my computer can even handle that. Thanks!

And I'll just add that I know times can get rough here on the forums, especially when we've all been waiting, and it leads some of us to do rash things without thinking. Love you all folks, try and be kind to each other.
