What's my best bet for an all gold color 3/3/3 set up?

Not complaining or anything, but is it possible to couch an opponent to disarm him upon a parry, then circle and couch him again, for a 1-shot, before he can get up and grab his weapon?

I think a guy did this to me. It's possible that I was just too slow to grab my weapon after falling.

Anyways, it was really impressive. I suck as horsman.

Definitely possible, I´ve done so before. Getting up is really slow in this game.

Am I biased towards yellow and green? Yes I am, as these are the colors of my real life armor.

These are not all my current builds, but the others are just slight variations of those shown above.

You can riposte-throw throwables if you have a shield in the off hand and parry with it.

Regarding maps. Personally, I would keep them unbalanced, but change the objective to attack and defense. The disadvantaged team only has to hold until the round ends (via time or tickets). Points that are lost are permanently gone. Maybe add a few more interestign side objectives like freeing the prisoners and pushing carts, and done.

Yes, basically Chivs team objective mode. The symmetrical tug-of-war style of frontline hardly ever works, usually one team just gets pushed slowly and eventually loses, which isnt really surprsing as the losing team would suddenly have to play a whole lote better to beat back the other team that spawns ontop the point the losing team is trying to take back. And that is amplified by unbalanced maps. Unbalanced maps are notsuch a problem with asymettrical objectives, so I´d like to see those.

Kite Shield will block a couched lance from a horseman, if you hold it up facing the lance.
you'll fall over, drop your shield and lose ALL of your stamina, but you will survive and take no damage.
i haven't tested if this is the same case with the Heater Shield or not.

This is true for any melee weapon and any shield. You can block or parry a couched attack - you will still take damage, be disarmend or dis-shielded and knocked down, but you survive... unless the horseman turns around and finishes you while you get up.

Now we only need to find out if you can chamber couched attacks, lol.

Good points. I have no idea how much HP the boss NPCs have. However judging from the numbers in horde mode, it seems all enteties including horses, have 100 hp, but with damge modifiers. Like how hitting a boss in horde in the head only does 10 damage.

Well Jedi Knight was the first "melee" game that came to my mind that had good singleplayer. It being a Star Wars game was just coincidence.

Besides, then there is Mount and Blade, I guess. It´s pretty rough around the edges and sandbox only, so no campaign to follow - you need to set your own goals. But it is medieval melee and can entertain you for a long time in single player if you happen to be into that special kind of experience. Though you probably want to mod the game.

Rune also exists, though it is pretty arcadey and very old. I never played the single player myself. And then there is Kingdom Come, which is a full fledged single player RPG with historical combat.

And finally, there is Exanima.

It´s still in development and development is pretty slow because the technology is programmed from the ground up, but it has the most unique melee combat of any game I´ve come across. It does have a single player campaign that revolves around exploration and dungeon crawling and can entertain you for quite a while, and it does have a combat arena against pretty competent bots where you can level multiple fighters and do duels, team battles and monster battles for gold in a gladiator-like mode.

The single player content for this game is completely lackluster. Do not buy if that´s what you´re looking for.

You cannot even earn gold and XP to unlock stuff when playing offline.

If you want good sword combat game with great singleplayer (and also great multiplayer), buy the Jedi Knight games. They´re still the best Star Wars games in my opinion, and certainly the best lightsaber combat games.

When you look at the weapon charts, you often come across attacks that deal more than 100 damage, like when you hit bare heads. Is there actually any difference between doing 100 and 160 damage on a hit? Or do the above 100 damage hits work exactly the same as the 100 damage ones?

The only use I could think of is against bots in horde as some of them have modifiers that makes them take less damage, but damage values of weapons in horde mode seem to be inconsistent with how they otherwise function (some even have whole new features, like mauls doing damage through parries) so it´s hard for me to conclude.

Weapons that normally cannot combo can combo off of weapon clashes.

As much as I like kilts, they would fit a medieval themed game about as well as tricornes and muskets. They´re completely out of the time frame.

Oh no! All the archers will leave this game! Who am I going to oneshot with javelins now?

Please dont go, we need you to stand back and shoot at people!

Same thing happened to me today. I was on a horde server alone, just about to clear wave 7, and then some areshole joins, does a votekick and I get booted. How can this be a thing? Horde mode is cooperative anyway, just disable vote kick there.

Thanks a lot Josh for the detailed tests, that clears up lot.

Shame You can no longer easily oneshot archers, but I guess it´s fair when Huntsman is only one point anyway. Javelins are already pretty strong as is.

  • The billhook has negative knockback on some attacks and pulls people towards you. Might work well if you stand on a spike trap.
  • Ragdolling into spike traps is an instant death. Thus, bear trap in front of spike trap is instant death.
  • Icicles on Mountain Peak can be shot at and will fall down, killing people below them.
  • Horses drop turds which can be picked up and thrown for damage.
  • You can couch shovels, rakes, scythes etc. and one shot people with them. You can also couch the estoc.
  • You can grab projectlies that stick in your shield or your body and throw them back.
  • You can shoot projectlies out of the air - as mentioned - and that includes catapult rocks.
  • You can break a fall by doing a ledge pull up and will take no damage.
  • You can heal from enemy medic bags.
  • There is a grave on Camp outside of blue base which has a unique sun light effect.

I was under the impression that the huntsman perk doubled your damage when shooting or throwing at archers. Given that, as per in-game stats, javelins deal at least 50 damge to torsos, I thought that a javelin hit to an archer should alwys one-shot kill them, sans leg hits. However that does not alwys seem to be the case. Can somebody enlighten me what I am missing? Do javelins indeed always oneshot archers and I was mistaken or is there some other variable I´m not aware about?

I would also approve matchmaking for the other modes. Selecting them all through the browser can be quite tedious, and often times the modes I´d like to run are starved of players.

40 32

I know the problem. My ping is not the best, but usually alright (40 or so) and horse on horse combat is really whacky. Quite often it feels as if your attacks go right rhrough the enemy doing nothing, or you get hit by an attack that missed you by quite a bit. Sometimes a shorter weapon hits you while your longer weapon with the same timing does nothing, and jousting with two equally long weapons (like two spears) is just a gamble. Even if you both line up perfectly, only one player will randomly die nd the other takes no damage at all.

40 32

Good point about the preparation time. I´d say roughly every 5 waves or so there should be a break where players have to trigger the next wave manually, and until they do so, they have time to buy what they need and prepare the map (laying traps etc).
I know this might defeat the purpose of spreading out the equipment and making the more expensive items harder to reach, but currently, you can already achieve this by leaving just onw slow enemy alive and preparing everything in the meantime. Official "breaks" wouldnt really change the balance, just make things more convenient.
