Jousting as in tournaments.
We haven't gotten any realistic ogres since Shrek came out.
That would be hillarious, actually.
I dont have to take thus from any of you . The frogmouth helmet is specifically a jousting helmet. The ocularium (the slit through which the wearer of the helm could see) is gaping wide, and opponents could easily get their weapon through. This is unlike the narrower ocularium of typical great helms. Its not about historical accuracy this time, it's about being a good helmet choice.
They were invented to combat the splinters of a lance flying through the openings of the riders helmet and injuring him. It facilitated the moving of your head back and forth. After a clash, jousters wearing this helmet would lean backward, and the underbite of the ocularium would ensure thay nothing would fly into the wearers face.
The senario sounds rediculous, but people actually died this way, including the King of France.

Again, Frogmouth helmets were designs specifically for jousting.
Yeah, the characters in Mordhau are capable of a lot of flexibility (we saw that one fighter duck under the morning star)

Either the dispraportionate breastplates clip through the body when this happens, or the fighter's torso moves around at the crotch instead of the waist which is impossible.
Hounskull bascinet when?
Hey devs, you see the way Shrek did their breastplates?

Do it like that.
Frogmouth helmets were used in jousting, not in battle.
Its not notpicking, this issue would render the breastplates non-functional. With the breastplate ending at the crotch, your torso is unable to flex and all the weight sits on your shoulders, sitting on bone. And for safety reasons too.
See how the shorter breastplate moves with the body and the other resists.

The more curvature also makes it more protective, by helping blows to that area glance off. Combined with tassets, its more coverage, protection, and confortability overall.
In the picture that I did edit out, the breastplate came with tassets and the devs probably realized that it was less of a skirt and more as protection for the abdomen.
Uh, you also disregard what make some armor pieces functional, especially by fucking up all the breastplate proportions.

sut up
The last four are cancer.

The pattern welding on the viking sword looks very true to life. It's clear the devs looked into it, or maybe one of the devs has blacksmithing experience and makes damascus himself. The other swords look great as well. The leftmost looking very ornamental with engravings, and the simple but robust sword in the middle.
The Landsknecht needs a hat. I would like to see him wielding a spear next update when that comes out.
I know i'll get hate for this, but all of those helmets, despite looking cool, are just more off-the-wall representations of medieval/renaissance helmets. That last one is just begging for a lawsuit from Ubisoft. We could have gotten later styles or regional variations of the sallet, later forms of barbute, different styles of kettle helms, or the hounskull bascinets from the late 1300's.
Apart from that, I absolutely love the 15th-century style brigandine, it looks very faithful to historical designs, with the triple rivet pattern and the buckles on the torso. The billhooks look great, even though I have a feeling it will be very derivative from Chiv gameplay-wise, which i'm not too stoked about.
After this, I can expect the next update to add one handed flails and more representations of helmets based off 5 minute google searches and products sold on LARP stores.
I would be very glad to talk to the artists personally about the proper representation and design of these helmets, and some designs that aren't in the game. I know I've been a cunt on the forums, but I would really like to help the dev team with this.
Trying to invent a cryostasis pod that will put my body into suspended animation until the Mordhau alpha comes out.
