I don’t know about the rest of the gamers out there... but you guys lost me a long time ago. gameplay looks clunkier than it did on day 1. Ive voiced concerns on these forums before and got suspended for having a thread of logic to what i was saying (maybe thats just an opinion)... It looks like a gross hybrid between Chiv and Mount and Blade that leans more twards Mount and Blade by way of controls... we can all agree playing mount and blade was great till you swung your sword and you were suddenly walking through tar. . . its uppsetting and appalling that you guys adked for 80 thousand dollars and promised a certain release date... you guys got triple that and then some... it should have come out quicker. instead (and i totaly get it) you got a gold mine to work with and decided to make a better game than initialy thought up. now its not even the game i was excited about. again, just my thoughts: you died in development.

never got good enough on my sad computer that died. and it was too slow to warrant having anything to do with pro players on the pc. pretty sure you can pretty easily see that a_squire has only logged 230 something hours through steam. and i dont think anyone cares about the clans on consoles where i played a majority of my chivalry. im poor. im just now building my first real gaming computer.

and while ive got your attention small fry:

howabout you try to take a blow at one of the points ive made about the game? oh right. i made you feel stupid for liking a game that may or may not be broken. so your in defense mode: make me look stupid. cmon kid. your doin a decent job so far. nobody likes a console gamer- show em how stupid i am. and while your at it, id love to hear you come up with a good reason as to why i should not be worried about the repeat playability of this game.
also... im only trash talking you. the kid who got offended at what i had to say. didnt even care to think about the fair points i made. yeah... its people like you...
your why i dont even play many video games anymore.

im not even saying spining is the highlight of chivalry. im just saying that there is no good way to nerf the way you move and keep the level of *emergent gameplay required to keep people coming back to it for the next 5-10 years.
its like asking a CoD fan to get good at battlefield. the CoD guy will say the same thing every time: “i dunno i just dont like it... i feel like im walking through tar... or butter..”

and yeah... battlefield never got quite as big as CoD did in its hay day did it?

chivalry is mordhaus CoD whether you all like it or not. tread lightly with your nerfings is all im saying. i havent even gotten to play yet and im about to give up on the game...

which is cool with me i guess... cuts the computing power i need in half. makes my comp i wanna build cheaper if i just plan on going back to pc chiv.

CantDoober. signing off. i dont even think i like this gaming community... its al the kids from chiv i couldnt stand to hear complaining i think... which means chiv has less scrubbs now? maybe nows the time to get back jnto chiv? yall keep doing what your doing howbout that? lates.

so stoked. i used to join chivalry games and ask myself: “are these kids immature just trying to have some fantasy fun in medieval times? or can we all try to win and have fun in the process?” i would play polite for you scrubbs, or if everyone was cool id play the way that felt natural. the fun way. no holds barred.

no more polite chiv play is what im saying. thats what mordhaus for kids.

Squire, I'd reccomend making your posts... well... more coherent. Even when I agree with a few of your points I can't help but cringe.

you nerds make ME cringe how about that.? you admit to my points being good but i still scare that side of you that was just bad at chivalry imo. your the exact “i dont wanna figure out how to do that, so get rid of it” player i keep saying the devs need to strieght up start ignoring. or again: youll only have little middle schoolers playing this game. and it will only serve as the easier version of chivalry. the feeder to harder more competetive medieval melee games.
a genre thats going to explode in the next 10 years in the pvp deathmatch world.

A while back, patch 14 I think, I had alot of fun because, though parry was still fucking huge, I could outplay people and get around their parry. Stabs have now been nerfed and I feel as though parry is even bigger. I fucking hate it. Why do I have to play Mordhau the way you people played Chivalry? I really do believe the devs are forcing a certain play style and it's not even a playstyle that looks or feels good.

off topic: any professional paintballers here?: can you help me explain to these kids that there was only money in paintball 10 years ago because of the amount of cheating going on in the leagues?
to explain:
pro paintball matches: every player is regulated to have their gun shoot a certain amout of balls per second. this made the game fair right? nope. it made it boring. cause in real life, it gets random. you get hit by a ball that your opponent didnt even mean to hit you with game after game. so what happened?
people started cheating.
(equate this to spinnerinos, or the idea of emergent gameplay)
they stopped playing their oponents, and started playing the refs.
wiping your hits became the norm. if the ref didnt see you wipe it, your still in the game.
people started putting cheater boards in their electronic guns. where the rules there 12 balls a second your gun could shoot. people had their guns maxed out to near 40 balls a second. theyd just pull their trigger in a certain pattern to turn their cheater function on/off in case a ref wanted to test your gun and disqualify you for cheating.
look: emergent gameplay happening in a real life sport.

i think this guy hit the nail right on the head with what makes a game fun, and gives it replay value.

a thing is only fun, if it is fun. if you can keep building on it.
chess: a board game. simple tools, max freedom. fun. if you think about it: its because this emergent gameplay, as he calls it, is at the very core of chess. and every single other fun game/hobbie or vice or whatever.

ive put hundreds... maybe about a thousand hours into chiv across all the platforms its been released on. not a single kill i got or game i played or even combo i used, played out exactly the same way even twice.

i see people regurgitating the same moves and strategies over and over again in these mordhau gameplay videos.

and its the mexhanics. its the devs forcing this simulation style gameplay down your guyses throats. im just trying to help.

the game lacks freedom. thats all.

I feel like MORDHAU devs really want me to play the way THEY want me to play

careful, i got suspended for voiceing this exact point on another thread, cause these devs and the nerds theyve let admin their forums, are wierdo history buffs that wanna play some wierd choreographed simulation videogame of medieval knights. like... go watch a movie. this is games.

actualy what i realy think: these devs and their nerds are the kids who were bad at chivalry. “wahaha i hate the way they beat me... i dont even get how their doing that...” (hours later) “ugh i cant do it!! fuck that! that doesnt even look real!!” starts typeing: “your bad at this game!! cause i cant beat you with real life tactics! and i cant read your spins cause i dont wanna think that hard!!”
so they design those plystyles that they didnt understand out of their game. like. ok. fine. bai.

Ever since the release of Mordhau, there was something about the gameplay that I didn't like, but I couldn't quite put my finger on. I still have a hard time pinning it down..

It's gotten a bit better over the recent patches. But honestly, the feel of Mordhau still doesn't feel right, it's just not fun. And just to be clear. It has nothing to do with the game modes, it's the core mechanics themselves that are the problem. Most of my 1k+ hours in Chivalry is just from dueling, but I could never imagine spending that amount of time dueling in Mordhau.

After reading this article

I think probably the core problem with Mordhau, is that it lacks emergent gameplay. Emergent gameplay are solutions, or 'Strategies' in this case, that can emerge from the games rules in ways that were not scripted, or even more importantly not even foreseen by the developers themselves. Chivalry had a lot of emergent gameplay, and we saw this in the form of strategies that players invented, such as backswings, spins, and many others. The key here, is that the developers of Chivalry did not foresee the development of these strategies. They made a system that did things, that even they could not predict.

Mordhau seems to lack this almost entirely, everything we can do in Mordhau, the devs know we can do. The devs seem to be purposely trying to constrain the gameplay, to only allow for a specific way of play. To force the gameplay to look a certain way, and only that way. As a consequence the only thing that we can seem to really get better at is things such as timing, aiming etc. The game seems to only allow us to become more efficient, and doesn't seem to allow us to be creative and invent our own strategies.

I think this problem, may be connected to a bigger, more fundamental problem, which I think lies within the mindset/vision the developers have for how the game should work.

he has worded my worries better than i ever could have hoped. and he actualy has access to the alpha so he knows better than my stalking gameplay videos.

simple mechanics, endless freedom, **to allow for emergent gameplay. as he puts it. otherwise yeah, youll have no continuous player base. and definately no appeal for any type of MLG anything on this melee platform.

if the devs were smart theyed be focusing on making their game appealing to pro players. not noob children. then theyed make money for the next ten years, not just a big chunk on release.

this emergent gameplay as he calls it, is exactly what eppeals to professional gamers.

i dont even own fort night. but the way pros play that game is a breathtaking example of what emergent gameplay is, and what it can do for the whole game and its community. you think the developers of fortnight thought players would be using their building cpabilities like earthbenders with guns? contanstantly, grossly, swiftly building, in-between shots to cover and hide? doubtful. but thats exactly the strategy that made that ninja kid famous. and keeps that game on the top of the charts.
edit* actualy on this note: first person shooters were getting boring, then boom: Battle Royale games: all they did really was make the map bigger (upped the freedom) and wham: a new, fun shooter.

spinnerinos in chiv: another great example of emergent gameplay.

halo: everything about it. emergent gameplay. <- the defenition of simple tools and unlimited freedom.

im out till the game comes out, thanks for your comment sir. i hope the devs hear your cries and listen. i see this exact lack of strategy (*emergent gameplay) happening in the countless gameplay vids ive watched, where the fights look choreographed. (like the devs seem to want.) fkn wierdo history buffs... hope the game stays playable after the first week of release.
and not just for the middle schoolers after class.

honestly... had chivalry come out a little later with better graphics... and just clashing added to the mechanics alone... i dont think anyone would be able to get their strangle hold off the medieval melee games market. theyd of blown up out of perportion with minimal advertising. bringing a brethtaking amout of people in to play a fair fighter. but thats just my theory.

i like how people often mistake their oponents beastly input as glitches or poor mechanics.

If only we could look at the gif to see that the sword clipped him without dealing damage, and also had a dev tell us that it was a mistake caused by a setting.
